Im ok people!  I worked for NAVSEA in the 80s.  Before they moved to the WNY.  When I was at the yard I worked betwn 2 buildings.  196 and 143.

So they postponed the game?

No word yet Cal.

If they don't play baseball today, the terrorists win.

If they don't play baseball today, the terrorists win.

That could be accurate if they weren't using the facilities as a rendezvous point.

That's nuts.  Is the Metro station even open?

Or if we knew they were terrorists.

You wouldn't think that disgruntled workers could put together a coordinated plan like this, though.

It's not so nuts, for the Metro is open and that one entrance/exit near the Navy Yard can be closed

That's nuts.  Is the Metro station even open?

I'm curious to see how access was accomplished.      What type of security is in place at the gate and in each building?   I would think there were several check points at the minimum.    If it is "secure", there's an aroma to it.

I hope the Navy Yard has better security than a high school.

Or if we knew they were terrorists.

It was tongue in cheek...

From what I heard, one of the first victims was a gate guard. Even at the more secure installations, if you could get the drop on the guards at a time when then only had a few people working the gate (2 or so) then getting access wouldn't be that hard.

Hell, I couldn't get into the Credit Union at DOT because I didn't have "proper" ID.

It is kind of nuts seeing as how they think there are more shooters out there potentially still in that area, right?  Seems crazy to want that area swarmed with thousands coming to a baseball game when they're trying to find more suspects.

When I first read your comment about "terrorists", I thought you might be sandbagging us.    :)

I had not heard that about the guard, but I had wondered how he got through the gate.

Doubt there will be a game tonight.  Some bad stuff going on around the Navy Yard.  Horrible.

Anyone who has worked for the federal government knows that "security" is mostly security theater, which sadly is why incidents like this are still possible.

Not calling the game with potential suspects at large is just as stooped as it gets...

Creating a target rich environment for someone, given the current circumstances, is itself nothing short of criminal...

There's a whole thread on it. Apparently, the Braves have not been told to avoid the Park.

Postponement would be the smart thing, especially since I think they've been using Nats Park as a response area and two of the suspects remain at large.

(Besides, I'd love another afternoon ballgame.)

UPDATING: As of 14.18, the match is still on (per a Post blog covering the shootings.)
