cots has his deal listed as

Quote
4 years/$36M (2012-15)
signed by Oakland as a free agent from Cuba (via the Dominican Republic) 2/13/12
12:$6.5M, 13:$8.5M, 14:$10.5M, 15:$10.5M
may become Article XX(B) free agent after 2015 season

edit, article XX(B) in his case appears to be just a regular free agent http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/03/2013-14-article-xxb-free-agents.html

This will forever be known as the Johnny Gomes deal, the same way as the 2011 deal is known as the Nick Punto trade.

I thought his name was "And" Punto.

I don't see much what the Twins could give the A's that would be worth Milone.

Seems like this year's trade deadline day is way more active than the past couple of years, doesn't it?

Thanks to the A's.  Little else anywhere.

yeah I really don't understand teams like Philly, Houston, TB, etc not making deals.

1. TB - they're still in it.  Selling is essentially waving the white flag

2. HOU - who do they have that anyone would want?

3. PHL - Other than Hamels, who wants any of those jokers?

we could probably get hamels from philly if we offer harper, strasburg, giolito, and fransden.

Milone for Fuld is a steal for the Twins.

houston is supposed to be listening to offers on Cosart.

The Gomes deal also involved Boston sending $1MM to Oakland (presumably to stock the soda machine) and Oakland sending Boston the 2d pick in Compensatory draft B pool (that is, the 2d pick after the 2d round and any supplementals).

Cespedes can become a free agent after 2015, so Oakland probably thought they were going to lose control of him after that anyway.

TB should deal Price. They are too far back. Zobrist too.

Houston - Cosart, Keuchel, Qualls

Philly - Hamels, Burnett, Byrd, Utley, etc

Was in the car with an A's fan when he found out about the deal. He loved it, actually. They've got outfield depth and weren't going to be able to keep Cespedes after he becomes a FA anyway. Beane's going all in, it's WS or bust this year for Oakland. Lester has said he wants to go back to Boston when he hits FA, so if they don't win it this year, it essentially becomes Oakland giving Cespedes for 2015.

TB - Disagree.  TB needs to be buyers.  They can trade Price/Zobrist in the off-season.

HOU - That's all you got?  I think I've got a high-A prospect  . . .

PHI - You got me on Burnett, but Byrd, Utley?  Even if you throw in Rollins and Howard they're all overpaid and old (only Byrd isn't overpaid).  If you're looking for a bench bat or if your current middle-infielder is grossly underperforming you can try Rollins or Utley but both have said they don't want to be traded and both have LNTC's.  Phillies suck and will for a long time.

Listening to XM all morning and reports are coming in that now that the deal is done, it is NOT a foregone conclusion that Lester will go back to Boston.  He is apparently really unhappy with the way the Sox have handled his contract talks and welcomed a trade out of town.

You're going to have to do a lot better than Cespedes to get Price.  The Rays are going to have to get a king's ransom for Price.
