He's going to the AFL, right?
That is correct.

Good article from BA about Rendon: http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/winter-baseball/arizona-fall-league/2012/2614158.html

Quote
"I'll tell you what, he's got some bat speed," said Rafters hitting coach Ever Magallanes, who coaches in the White Sox organization during the regular season. "Strong, strong quick hands … the ball just jumps off his bat … He's got a real natural fluid swing. It's fun to watch his BP."

Let him play half a season in AA, half in AAA. He's got to learn to hit AA and AAA. Average at Harrisburg was about .160.

Half at 3B, and half at 2B. Espi and Lombo are good fielders, and you cannot be fragile at 2B.

If Zimmerman can't straighten out his throw to first,  Rendon will end up at third- might as well keep getting him reps there

Zimmerman has to do just one thing to straighten out his throw to first. Stop Thinking.

He changed his throw after his abdominal injury, right? Could it now have something to do with his sore shoulder?

It's not that big of a problem. He nails every type of throw to first except for the ones that he has time for.

Yep. When he has time to think... that's where the problems begin.

But how often does it happen? He'll throw the ball away once every blue moon. The guy is as lights out at defense as you can be.

Let's let Zimmerman get his shoulder surgery before sending him over to first. I maintain that he had some physical disablement.

No he throws side arm effortlessly. His 3/4 or over the top is giving him trouble due to shoulder injury.

You'd think, but if you remember, he adjusted his throwing motion during his recovery from the ab injury.

Maybe they just didn't tell us about the shoulder injury at that point.

Change of throwing motion combined with shoulder injury and that was the result.

It's not like Rendon will be MLB ready to start next season. Plenty of time to let Ryan heal up and see about his throwing motion then. If it is a case of the yips, then we move him to first. Or LF

I looked at the "Advanced Fielding" stats available at Baseball-reference.com.

Ryan makes no errors on catching throws and relatively few fielding errors. He's made only 33 fielding errors in his career.

However, in the same time, he has made 80 (eighty) throwing errors. I couldn't find any other 3B who had a similarly lopsided split. Beltre's numbers are 131 fielding and 108 throwing (over a longer time), Wright is 78 and 78. Rolen is 140 and 45. Zimmerman already has 35 more throwing errors than Rolen had in his entire career.

It obviously is his downside to his tremendous fielding game but I think it sort of makes sense with his injury history on his arm/shoulder/whatever it was.

Does the FO think Rendon could be MLB ready next season? I don't really see it, but lots of mention of him in the offseason chat

He started yesterday. It isn't uncommon for players to share time in the AFL.
