Weatherbug on FioS says rain starting tonight and turning to snow tomorrow evening - got places to go tomorrow, so I hope so.

I still always go with noaa.gov. Other weather sites are a pain in the ass with all their advertisements and all the clicks you have to do and what-not. I bookmark my zippy and BAM! one page summary. Who needs the hassle when most of those other sites are just getting their forecasts from noaa.gov anyway?

I push widgets, scroll to weatherbug, hit enter. That's it. And the best part is the show keeps playing.

Capital Weather Gang.  No clicks unless you want the comments or it's a very long entry.  Easily the best weather source in the area.

I have a real love-hate relationship with telecommuting.  It's nice to be able to keep caught up when I'm physically unable to go in to the office but frustrating in not being able to focus at home due to distractions (like NBA Jam).  Maybe if I had a dedicated office at home I'd feel differently...

I work full-time at home in a spare bedroom that i converted into a home office.  I do have to travel a fair bit so it's a trade-off.  I miss going out to lunch and having co-workers to talk with, and listening to Howard Stern on the commute, but overall I don't miss being stuck in traffic for 2 hours a day.

The problem is staying in that room. There's no fun stuff just outside your office at work. Maybe putting on a suit and tie at home helps. . ..

I've got 25 years of Stern on my work server.

Eh, even at work I've got my MacBook Pro and hard drives with distractions (i.e. movies, music, MAME).

I was a regular listener back when he was getting fired in DC.  Never cared for him once he moved to NY.

At home you can always be the one to run the errand, take the kid/dog to the doctor, be around for the repairman, make phone calls during business hours, etc.

we are starting to use desktop video chat a lot, which is a royal PITA because it means I have to shave, take a shower and put on a nice shirt to sit in my home office.

Snow falling in Manassas about 12 hours earlier than it should be.  Gotta hunch this is going to be bigger than expected.

1/2"+ already on the ground.  Streets and cars covered.

It coming down like crazy in Falls Church already. One inch hours before it was to start. Definitely looks like it might destroy their forecasts and be a monster of a snow storm.

Love the guys at CWG calling out the NWS.  How they are still forecasting overnight rain when it's snowing and all the models showed that being likely for several hours is ridiculous.  The idea that nothing east of Warren Co. has been upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning is idiotic and negligent at best.

Good luck everyone, this is really starting to look like an all snow (or mostly snow with very little mix) event.  That could tip us into the 8"+ or more range.

EDIT:  With all signs pointing towards more snow than expected the NWS has decided to DOWNGRADE the I-95 part of VA/DC to a Winter Weather Advisory.  Apparently they know something that every single model doesn't.

EDIT 2:  Went dry for a bit, then light sleet, then suddenly back to moderate snow and the radar looks like that's going to be the case for a while.

The sound of the sleet woke me up at 4:30. All the school districts are now closing(FF, LC, PWC)

No word from Uncle Sam yet.  I called my supervisor and said I didn't want to risk coming in, if I have to turn around and Leave in a few hours.

Although I can't work from home, I did when I was in private industry.  I too was distracted and missed coworker contact.

Watch, government will have an early release and you'll have chaos on worse roads.

Funny.  I did not notice anything today.  must be the tunnel connecting my apartment to the metro, then the metro letting off under my office building.  The Metro car looked a little wet on the outside.

we have a bit of ice on the grass in western PCW but the streets aren't frozen.  Capital Weather Gang says we'll see this starting around 1:00 PM moving southwest to Northeast:

Quote
Not to sound alarming, but all be aware that the snowfall rates around this evening's commute may be extreme and make travel very hazardous and potentially crippling. Thundersnow is possible with rates in excess of 1 to 2 inches per hour. Total accumulations of 4-8"+ in the north and west suburbs continue to seem like a good bet but may be conservative on the low end. Similarly, our forecast of 3-6"+ around D.C. and to the southeast, may be a bit conservative on the low end of that range.
