-Fat Johnny Estrada.

He's the one. I keep forgetting the name. I'll probably forget it in about ten minutes.

Brian Schneider did TV commercials in NYC for some car dealership. Always made me think of Estrada (the nameless one) waddling to homeplate

Wil "The Contributor" Cordero...

Dude came into the Cubs series in 2005 as a pinch hitter with an .068 batting average.

I remember when people hated Rizzo for getting rid of Shell.

Shell was serviceable. The cord was cut too soon, I remember that pretty well. No big deal in the end though.

Also: Josh Wilson.

I think we can count Yunesky Maya in this too. Shades of old.

I'm not one for doom and gloom, but it's too easy to take shots at Nady and HRod right now.

They need to bring those commercials back.  Some of those were really pathetic.

Nats Park on a 95+ day may be no fun, but one's real heat endurance was tested severely at RFK - especially back during the first season when the stewards took everyone's water off them until the DC health authorities called them off - until then the only way to get water was to waste an inning (or more) on a food queue. But water or no water, the place was a sauna - as Casey Stengel said of old Busch Stadium when it hosted the ASG in 1966: 'It holds the heat well' (now the concourses did provide some cross-ventilation at times but one could not see the match from many areas thereon).

The worst seats in RFK on really hot days were in the mezzanine section. You might catch the occasional light breeze in the upper deck, but there was no air circulation in the mezzanine at all.

Yeah, but at RFK you could enjoy cold beverages while grilling sausages on charcoal and watching the ospreys fishing in the Anacostia.  Starting a fire near Navy Yard would probably put one on a plane to Guantanamo.

Players noticed the heat, too. Dave Baldwain, a relief pitcher for the 1969 Senators -- the last Washington baseball team to finish above .500 -- recalled  that "It was unbearable in that bullpen. We would sit there and just bake. All the heat funneled right to us. Your strength would be gone before you even got into a game if you weren't careful. We'd go back underneath the stadium as  much as we could. You couldn't watch the ballgame from back there, but it was cool. So we'd escape every chance we had". [Stephen J Walker, "A Whole New Ballgame", p54]

At one point in 2010 I felt Alberto Gonzalez was the long term solution at first base.
