Balester should get out of his skid tonight. He's been working on the 4 seam and maybe they won't have him throw it as much tonight. Bally should shake it off if it is called by Bard. Unless they want him to throw it to major League hitters so he can learn on the job for next year.  When he threw what he wanted to throw he had two,  7 pitch innings against the Reds.  At least that's what it looked like to me while I was at the game in Cincy.

I think I'll be watching the game in Arlington with some friends (maybe Rock Bottom) tonight, so I won't be on here.

Hopefully our offense can get to Marquis this time tonight.  Last time we faced him was brutal.

As far as Balester, he has to fall in love with establishing the lower part of the strike zone.  He has to keep that fastball down there then mix in the curve and the change.  It's a big start for him b/c Detwiler and Estrada have been putting up good numbers in AAA and could be promoted soon.  Please no homers!!!

For those going tonight - per Yahoo! Weather:

'Scattered thunderstorms early, mainly cloudy late with a few showers. Humid. Low near 75F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 50%.'

...in other words, pretty much what they predicted for yesterday (and, as with yesterday, following an afternoon with 40% chance of precip) - and we did get a few sprinkles last night, but not enough to get the tarp out (but there was a fabulous lightning show in the eastern sky!).

The weather did seem to keep walk-up sales down (18,192 in the house last night, although it did look like more)...this does seem to be rather a weather-sensitive fandom - at the other extreme, the threat of 100+ temperatures at the Diamondbacks finale Sunday-before last probably helped keep that afternoon's attendance at 19,938, our smallest Sunday-afternoon turn-out since 19th April (16,974 for Marlins).

I hope the rain holds off. I'll be there.

It's ridiculously humid outside.

Was bad enough last night, what few rain drops there were evaporated within seconds of impacting the concrete....but that's DC in the summertime, I'm afraid.

Last time Marquis pitched against the Nats was an 8 inning, 0 ER gem  :?

But since that win (June 6th), his record has gone like this: loss, win, loss, no decision (team win), loss, win.

Per that trend, he'll lose today

Go Nats!

Um, pardon me, but I'm in Houston, and it's not ridiculously hot up there.

Um, you're in Texas so we'll cut you some slack but hot isn't the same as humid.

What is it about bragging about having it worse?  People do that with drivers too - "people in my area drive like idiots!"

Give me Montana anytime.  Then I can brag about being stuck indoors because of the snow drifts.  At least then I'll have an excuse for actually watching Nats games - no other choice!

Here's what I've found.  In the summer, it's hot just about everywhere.

I'll take Helena, MT's 79 as of right now over the 93 + humidity where I am.

That said, yeah Summer can bite me.  It used to get me out of school, but what has it done for me lately?

Why?  Because it makes statistical sense?  Remind me again which days stats count and which days they don't - I can't keep up with your schedule.

Bard should not start period and belongs out of baseball. No reason for Belliard to start ever again for this team. AlGo is playing well and plus Morse is on the roster.

I'll shrug off Morse vs. Belliard but you saying "AlGo" is playing well after he had one two-hit game is laughable.  Bard is 3/6 against Marquis and Nieves is 0/2.  Neither is really a significant sample size, but at least there is some evidence that Bard can hit Marquis.  I don't understand why you continue to hate on the man.  Yeah he's slow.  If he hits balls off the wall I don't really care.  It's not like ANY of the 7-8 guys are game-changers, so you play whoever is hot or matches up well.  If the 2-3-4 spots do as poorly as they did last night, we're always going to lose.

Belliard has a 1.1 OPS against a guy who shut us out last time, and you're worried about your mancrushes

Bard is ice cold, 19 for his last 99 (.192) and his BA on the season is down to .232.

He is a steep downgrade behind the plate as well.

AlGo is playing a lot better lately. Looks rock solid defensively too which is important. Belliard is hacking for the fences with every swing and can't play a lick of defense.

I want to have a chance to win before the game starts. our chances are diminished with Belliard and Bard in the lineup.

I do agree with you though that if our middle of the order hits like crap again tonight we have no chance.

Marquis pitched 8 scoreless innings against us earlier in the season. We will likely see a repeat.

I expect Bally to get rocked too. hope not but we'll see.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   You can't use LOGIC!  What are you trying to do, be reasonable!?

Actually I do think Morse should get some starts over either Belly or AlGo.  I want to see what he can do.  I've seen AlGo, I've seen Belliard, now let me see Morse.

Josh Bard had one ridiculous month (June) where he batted .383.

Excluding that month, he is batting .184 on the season.

:lmao:
