On Thursday afternoon, Bergmann found himself in a pitchers' duel with Mets
right-hander Mike Pelfrey. When it was over, it was Bergman who came out on
top as Washington defeated New York, 1-0, at Shea Stadium. Bergmann was
dominating. He pitched seven shutout innings, gave up three hits, struck out
nine and walked two. The weird thing was, Bergmann was in control without
having a good fastball. It was his slider and curveball that helped keep the
Mets off balance.

Hamels can't be much more dominating than he was May 15 against the
Braves, when he tossed a four-hit shutout, throwing 120 pitches. Three of
the four hits were singles, and he walked two while striking out six. He's
gone 4-3 with a 2.49 ERA in 10 career starts vs. the Nationals.

Hamels is 2-1 with a 0.65 ERA in his last four starts against us. Let's hope he doesn't get ahead of too many hitters tonight.

But if our players read this forum and decide to pacify the masses and not swing at the first pitch and Hamels does the same thing then he'll know to throw first pitch fastballs for strikes without fear of them being swung at so he could be ahead of our hitters all night :?

I hope we start to play dukes some in either RF or CF, I think we need to give him consecutive starts and several at bats to see what he can do. I'm not saying I have anything wrong with Mackowiak or others, but I believe Dukes has a little more potential to offer in the long run and that way if it doesn't work out after this season at least we gave him a shot.

I think Dukes and Pena will both be in the lineup tonight against the Lefty (Hamels).

I think it's ill informed. I can't find posted lineups in my usual places.

phils line-up is the same as last night.  here is your nats starting line-up:

Lopez - second
Guzman - the shortstop and nats current all-star
Zimmerman - the hot corner and next brooks robinson
Young - our first baseman
Milledge - covering center
Flores - the future
Pena - an experience in left
Dukes - the gunner in right (he really does have a strong arm)
Bergmann - the starting pitcher

Only Lopez and Zimm are really statistically significant in that.  Maybe Young and Flores, but certainly not Guzman, Mills, Pena, or Dukes.

I would be quite happy if Bergmann were being mentioned in the same sentence as Jon Lester this time tomorrow ... :)

I don't feel good about this one. The Phillies' Ace against our #5.  You have to figure that at the most we'll score 2 off of Hamels. Who knows what we'll get from Bergmann. Unfortunately, he'll have to be very near perfect for us to win tonight.

I imagine the Phillies have been studying the tape of Bergmann's last outing to be able to hit him...
Wait, it's the PHILLIES

Never mind.
