Marlon Byrd was acquired from the Phillies in one of the earliest in-season transactions in post-relocation Nats history, shortly after the start of the 2005 season...he has been quite well-travelled since his days at the RFK Nats, most recently ending up at the Red Sox...

I was coming to post about Byrd as well... Read about it on the ESPN recap. Can someone explain why the Red Sux release a player batting .270 with one HR? Clearly their team ain't exactly in a position with the entire roster batting over .300... So is this jus another reason why they are sucking so badly?

If Byrd is batting .270, and given his history with the Nats, definitely wouldn't mind picking him up as a bench player and late inning defensive replacement. Better us than the Mets or Braves grabbing him.

But seriously, why the freak does Boston DFA a .270 batter?

Dunn with HR #19, 45 RBIs so far.

He's could be an all-star this year. 2nd in HR, 3rd in RBIs in the AL.

That's a funny gif. I was going to say something about having a terrible hitter like Kearns at 1B, but then I saw that he has an OPS of nearly 1.000 in 50+ ABs this year.

The Marlins are weird - they've been outscored by 30 runs this year. Their biggest question mark - Zambrano - has been rock solid. Some of their guys who were supposed to perform, like Gaby Sanchez, Reyes, Johnson, and Bell, have been severely underperforming. LoMo crushes us but has been bad otherwise.

Ozzie Guillen, to his credit (which I don't often say), has been using Kearns in limited situations and it seems to be paying off.

Colodar - The Red Sox made a decision to keep Darnell McDonald temporarily instead of Marlon Byrd because of defense, running, and a history of being effective in platoons. All of this is temporary because Ross should be back on 6/19. They are not going to keep Byrd around when Nava is switch hitting, has better offensive numbers, and is making MLB minimum. Podsednik / McDonald can fill in in CF until Ross is back, and some combination of Ross, Sweeney, and Pods can cover until Ellsbury is back. The one thing going right for the Red Sox this year is that they have developed or come up with quality OF pieces. They actually are going to be squeezed and forced to keep Kalish in the minors (where he is tearing things up on rehab). Even Gonzalez has looked OK defensively in right (not saying his bat is OK).

Byrd would be a nice fit here if we give up on Nady and want to play Moore full time in Syracuse.

I'm stunned at how bad the Rays are but if you look at their roster it's not too surprising. They don't have much talent any more.

The fact that they got swept at home by the Mets speaks volumes.

Ordinarily I'd agree with you but, and don't everyone freak out when I say this, the Mets are having a storybook season not unlike the Nats. Granted their talent doesn't hold a candle to ours but they're getting some serious production out of some guys that most thought would be mediocre this season. Did anyone really think RA Dickey would be 10-1 at this point and have almost tossed a no-no? Or that Johan Santana wouldn't start three games and go back to paddling housewife ass in Florida on the DL?

Their offense is full of nobodies besides Wright. 2/5 of their rotation has been very good, the rest if mediocre. The bullpen had overperformed but was coming back to earth. Tampa Bay should be ashamed at this series.

I still don't see how the Mets can finish .500. They don't have the talent.

Well, if you're talking about how the season is going to play out for them I'd agree with you but right now they're actually having a lot of luck break their way. Lucas Duda has actually looked like a decent threat instead of some warm body to keep the trash away from the RF bleachers. Their bullpen is total trash though.
