The Marlins look like they would rather be any place other than a baseball field. Some of the blame should go to last year's manager and the GM for not shutting down some of the starters. Did no one learn from Dusty Baker, Mark Prior, and Carry Wood?
The Marlins players are upset that Fredi won't take control. He still hasn't held a team meeting this year. The Marlins rookie pitchers, with the exception of Olsen, all fell below their previous pro-ball number of pitches in 2006. Josh Johnson, though, may be on Girardi for holding him out for a long rain delay, telling him he's out of the game, and then sending him out to the mound. But Fredi's choices for coaches is awful.
Kranitz does not believe in being aggressive, and nibbles. It takes him months to figure out things a real coach would notice in a second. The result is that the Marlins lead the league in BB given up, and are more than 10% greater than the second worse team.
Then there is Presley, who's never had a batter make any adjustments. The Marlins give away a season or career high number of Ks to a pitcher every week, and are dead last in RBI efficeincy. Even though they are 4th in the NL in HR, I believe they still lead MLB in number of games scoring 3 or fewer runs. They've gone into the 5 being no hit something like 16 games.
Dead last fielding, too.
The Marlins have had some bad managers (McKeon, making a pitching change for the wrong team), and some horrible teams after the firesales and deadbeat owners, but have never had a team play as poorly as this year's team. But, they've never had a worse manager and coaching staff, either.
