Vargas (3-0, 2.89 ERA), off to the best start of his five-year career, joins Chris Capuano as the only undefeated members of a Brewers' rotation that boasts a 3.48 ERA. He'll try to help Milwaukee (23-10) extend its season-high winning streak to six games and finish 9-1 on the homestand.

Vargas, who was with the Nationals franchise from 2003-2005 in Washington and prior in Montreal, has not allowed a run in 12 innings. Vargas gave up four hits in six scoreless innings in Milwaukee's 10-0 win over Pittsburgh on Friday.

Jason Bergmann (0-3, 3.34) will again look for his first win since 2005 when he takes the mound for the Nationals on Wednesday. In his most recent outing, Bergman could not hold a 4-0 first-inning lead and allowed four earned runs and eight hits in Washington's 6-4 loss to the Chicago Cubs  on Friday.

The left-hander, who is 0-4 in 13 career starts, will make his first appearance against the Brewers.
