So, Nexus 7 or Kindle Fire HD 8.1 for Father's Day? Love the Kindle screen and the HDMI out, but I'm having a hard time being fenced into their ecosystem and fork of the code.
The positive side about buying Kindle is that Amazon has fantastic customer service, but the idea that I would use customer service precludes rooting it. I've heard lots of tough-luck stories about the Nexus 7, but it's hard to tell how true those stories are.
I also don't think the processors in the Kindle are as strong as those in the Nexus 7.
But that Kindle screen.
On the other hand, all the apps I have on my phone are available for the Kindle.
