I wonder if they are in touch with how much the pen has been used.

Of course, he gave up three runs and didn't get any outs so it was worse than it would have been if he'd just been taken out at the start of the inning  and it was the 8th not the 7th.  I don't think the bullpen was so stressed that they couldn't get 6 outs...which they had to anywayl

It's really easy looking backwards.

I thought it was a bad idea at the time.  I think most people thought it was a bad idea at the time.

Agree. After he punched out the catcher in the bottom of the 7th with his 100th pitch - that's when you pull him.

Especially with a big lead.

And he hurt himself batting earlier this season. Not to mention they don't play tomorrow

They're ripping the decision to put Scherzer back in the game in the 7th on MLB Now.
was it the 7th or the 8th?   I can understand it.  I just think it did not work.  Pen rest is important.  5 run lead, chance to get the pen set up again.  The decision probably was whether to burn Roark by pitching him 2 innings or to try to get one more inning out of Scherzer.  Solis was burned yesterday, Treinen has pitched a bit.  Grace would have required another reliever to pitch the 9th.  Idea probably was squeeze one more out of Scherzer, then have Grace pitch the 9th.  complete bullpen refresh.

Ok. with the off day, it is a worse decision.  Roark Grace for one each is better.
