It’s Grey Cup time again!
« Topic Start: November 25, 2012, 04:47:50 AM »
This year it’s Grey Cup C (that’s 100 for the non-Roman).   The Grey Cup matches the winner of the CFL's Eastern Division against the Western Division.  One combatant in this year's game is the Toronto Argonauts who defeated the Montreal Alouettes, 27-20, in the Eastern Division championship game after finishing second in the East to Montreal in the regular season.  Opposing them, from the Western Division, is the Calgary Stampeders who defeated the defending Grey Cup champion British Columbia Lions, 34-20, in the championship game after finishing second to BC in the regular season.

I scanned the rosters of the two teams to see if there was anyone who's had a notable NFL or NCAA history.  There are two names that you might recognize.  Toronto's head coach is Scott Milanovich, former record-setting Terrapin quarterback.  The Argonauts also have a backup running back with a familiar name, Gerald Riggs Jr.  This is his first season in the CFL.

Game time is 6:00pm ET today (Sunday November 25th).  The game will be played at Rogers Center in Toronto. Yes, the Argonauts will be playing on their home field, not by design, however.  They just happened to make it to the Grey Cup in a year when the game was scheduled to be played in Toronto.

Where can you see the game, if you're so inclined?  On the web at espn3.com.  It will be streamed live.  On television, you can see it on the NBC Sports Network.  That's the channel that used to be Versus on your television dial.

Want to make a bet?  Calgary is favored by 1.5 or 2 points.  Bet wisely!

Enjoy!!!  :D

I thought there was a rule that at least one of the teams had to be named the Roughriders.  How many teams are named the roughriders now?

Argos lead Stampeders 24-6 at halftime. The halftime show is a Canadian music spectacular.  Carly Rae Jepsen just finished Call Me Maybe.  Justin Bieber is up now.    :P

Toronto wins 35-22.  Start the clock on "Scott Milanovich coaching in the NFL..."

Michael Phelps must have been rocking to that.  I guess Rush will only play when Hamilton is the locale?

You forget how people get old until you see it. Yikes. That's what's waiting for me. If I'm lucky.

Ottawa Rough Riders.

Saskatchewan Roughriders.

freaking Canucks

You realize the reason for that situation (prior to the Rough Riders folding) was that the two teams had originated in different leagues (the Rough Riders adopted their name in 1898 and the Roughriders in 1910) and kept their names when the CFL was formed in 1958.

Come on the MLB isn't much better...

Two teams that are named after their red socks, and two teams that are named after Amerindians.

On another note- FRICKEN FRAKEN ARGOS >.<
