a tornado struck Hattiesburg, Mississippi tonight, it's freaking february and this is the 2nd time in a few weeks that tornadoes are hitting the SE.  There are reports that Mississippi State University took a direct hit.  The system in the central US is massive.

University of Southern Mississippi, not Miss. State.

here's a picture of a music building that got hit, fortunately it's Sunday so I'm guessing it was empty.

i'm not a big fan of the GFS, but it currently shows 8-12" of snow for the D.C. / Baltimore area next Saturday.

this would be fitting, latest GFS shows an ice storm for Northern Virginia for next Friday.

blue line is a cold front, green is rain that would go above it.

models seem to be coming into alignment for a saturday evening east coast storm, still iffy rain/snow line, but keep your fingers crossed if you like snow.

My dad used to sleep in his car at Blackwater Falls on XC ski trips when it would be like -10...I gather the need to urinate was the only thing that finally got him out of the cozy cocoon of  the polar sleeping bag in the morning.  Amazingly, the park has year-around hot water showers in the bathrooms at the campground, so one's chances of survival went up considerably after the freezing first piss of the day.

Potential for another foot-plus storm in New England again this weekend, per NWS.

All right...granted it's been pretty cold out today and much of the past couple of months...

...but this coming July/August we'll be sitting in baking-hot Nationals Park watching our lads on the diamond, and at least some of us (yours truly, on occasion, among them) will be thinking: 'DAMN...I WISH IT WAS FEBRUARY AGAIN!'

[just as it wouldn't surprise me if some people right now are thinking 'gosh how I miss those broiling baseball afternoons at Nats Park']

Such is weather...we're never satisfied.

I remember going to Outdoor School when I was in 5th grade, having to pee every morning like that  It was in May I think, up in Finzel I think, at the 4H camp. It would be like 30F in the morning, but get in to the upper 70's during the day. It was a blast, but I can remember in the mornings there would be a dozen or more boys around the cabins pissing because it was too cold to walk all the way up to the bathrooms.

When I was a youngster, my grandparents had "outdoor plumbing".    When I went to visit them, I didn't go to the can for a week.   Nothing like shoveling your way to take care of business in the winter.  :)

BTW  the chamber pot didn't work for me either.   :P

Great line from the Art Carney Movie Harry and Tonto   Art Carney is talking to a fellow old timer, talking about their "first time." This fellow grew up in Poland, and he set the setting on a cold winter's night.   The Polish man, describing how cold it was, says with his accent:

"The winters in Poland were so cold, your piss would freeze before it hit the ground."

Supposed to be 77 degrees with sunshine tomorrow and Sunday. I'll be in Austin walking about, wearing T-shirts, and eating food truck banh mi.

Y'all jealous yet?

No because in a few months you'll be lying panting under a cactus in 130 degree heat with vultures circling overhead.
