Is there someone that could go back and break down that Ankiel at bat from last inning.  The Card announcers were all over DCab again about tipping his breaking balls.  Slowing way down when he went off speed.

I just went back and checked. He only threw him one fastball so I checked other batters and the difference is that his arm seems a little more compact when throwing fastballs which makes it seem like he is slowing down on offspeed pitches. Of course a MLB hitter should be able to detect the difference but then again Cabrera is not in the strike zone enough for it to make a difference.  :?

Ugh this sucks.

Cabrera is doing just well enough to keep his job... but still make us lose.

Burn him at the steak.

I'm curious, do you know how announcers know where the ball is going?  It's not by watching the ball in flight.  They watch the outfielders and in this case he was sprinting back towards the wall.  There was reason to get excited.  Just fell a bit short.
no way. If I had the sound on mute I would have clearly recognized off the bat that it was going to come up a little bit short.

Carpenter is the worst in the business at judging them. always has been.

exactly. this is the worst case scenario. He ended up with a "quality start" despite pitching poorly most of the night.

this.  i don't want to hear the excuse of how high the nats press box is, he's had over a year to track how the ball flies off the bat.  zimmerman put a good swing into that one, but it wasn't going out.

he's like a red sox fan.  everytime a fly ball is hit to the outfield they all automatically think its gone.

You just gave hammonds ammunition to dust off that speech. How many pitches has he thrown?

I heard on the radio during a Philly broadcast at the Park that they complained Washington was the worst place for an announcer to call the game.

Apparently the angle is so high it makes it look like every ball is leaving the yard.

They absolutely hammered the Nats owner about how high up the press box was.

did he give us a chance to win?  shut up then.

quality start is a quality start.  we know he had 5 walks and 4 wild pitches.  but he limited the damage.  i'm not sticking up for him, if there's a better option then let's get him in the rotation right away.  but it's a freaking 3-2 game in the 6 inning and we're in position to tie or win this game.

he gave us 6 innings of 3 run ball.  let's win this freakin game, come on bats.

There are places where they are even higher. I believe St Louis and Cincinnati are two of them. But he makes the same mistakes on the road as well.

I don't listen or watch enough of other teams broadcasts to judge that bud I really didn't find anything egregious about the way he called the play.  He hit it to the base of the wall.

It was either the pressbox or some luxury boxes that got bumped up.  The media lost.

Best baseball movie is a tie between Major League and The Sandlot.

Best movie about pitching: For Love of the Game.
