I didn't give up Burgess, but I'm about to give up on Marrero.

Anyone keeping an eye on Tom Milone this year?  He's pitching well again at AA, is only 23, and seems to do well at each level.  I don't ever see him projected into the future rotation, and having seen him at Potomac I don't usually think of him that way, but at what point does he become part of the conversation?

I've been a big Milone fan since we drafted him.  He doesn't walk people often and is one of those guys that "knows" how to pitch.  He doesn't have great stuff and gets lit up on occasion, but I think he is definitely a guy worth watching.

 Latest info I have is: 1. Chris Curran demoted to extended spring training-Vermont roster
                              2. Wilfri Pena -demoted to extended spring training - Vermont roster
                              3. Dan Nelson-Released
                              4. Derek Norris and Boomer Whiting coming off DL
                              5. Bill Rhinehart demoted from Harrisburg to Potomac
  That was the latest info I have heard.......
         And of course, Jason Marquis pitching this Tuesday night at Potomac - of course it is suppose to rain Tuesday night, but we will see...........

I can't see how more BBs, fewer Ks, and a higher average could be anything but an improvement for a young player like Burgess. He has plenty of time to tap into that power (he's not older than 21). It wouldn't matter if he didn't learn to make some contact first. I would consider it shocking if he DIDN'T lose some power after making a dramatic adjustment in his approach.

i agree ... weather is heating up, his power numbers will go up ... the kid is just 20, isn't he?!?!  no way am I ready to give up.  especially when the general manager himself is singing high praise for him.

Three home runs in the past two weeks for Burgess, but the strikeouts are back up.  He is still killing lefties, though.

Steven Souza is making huge strides at the plate this season, definitely a welcome improvement.

Souza was terrible with the bat and the glove when I saw him 2 seasons ago, so that's good to hear. I thought he'd wash out by now, honestly.

The fielding is still a problem, but with his size he could eventually move to first or even a corner outfield position.  His bat is finally coming around to what they projected from him and he has pretty good speed for a guy his size.  I think if anything he just had not finished maturing physically and mentally over the last few seasons and that he might have finally started to fill out his frame.  He is also killing it with RISP in this season, something he failed miserably at over his first three seasons in the pros.

I don't know how old Souza is... but its pretty much futile to give up on any kid that is in his late teen's/early twenties.

They could still be developing, learning the game or just not mature enough to handle their profession.

That's why I like to wait 3-4 years before saying a guy is done.

It was based on my personal observation over a couple of games that he seemed to be sleepwalking through the games.

I've heard other observers question his attitude in the past as well, it could have just been a maturity thing.  Souza is 21 by the way.

Right... that points to the maturity issue I was talking about.

Maybe he's finally taking it serious this year?

There have been quite a few demotions like that this year. Alaniz, Cory VanAllen, Bill Rhinehart, Zech Zinicola, Marvin Lowrance, Edgardo Baez to name a few.

DENVER -- Seth Bynum, an infielder with Class AAA Syracuse, has been suspended 50 games after testing positive for an amphetamine, a performance-enhancing substance in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

The suspension takes effect immediately.

Bynum, 29, is hitting .248 with four homers and 17 RBI in 29 games with Syracuse, most of them at second base. He's been with the organization since 2004, when the Montreal Expos signed him as an undrafted free agent. He's a career .267 hitter in seven seasons with the organization.
