Too bad we don't need Curtis Granderson anymore...
I think Tiger fans would riot if they traded away Granderson.

If I were a Tigers fan and they did, I would...

And they really know how to riot up there . . .

Snell kind of replaces Washburn, except he's not as good.  Comerica is a nice park for Washburn.  he'll like having Granderson in the outfield.  The corners defense, not so much.

From rotoworld.com
SI.com's Jon Heyman reports the Red Sox are still talking with the Padres about acquiring slugger Adrian Gonzalez.

Clay Buccholz, Jed Lowrie and Justin Masterson are all involved in the deal. The Padres are also asking for Ryan Westmoreland and Lars Anderson. It's a massive price, but the Red Sox knew what they were getting into when they first struck up discussions for the 27-year-old Gonzalez. One wonders, though, what Boston would do with the newly acquired Adam LaRoche.

I know Gonzalez is good... but 5 prospects good? Damn!

for what it is worth - Westmoreland along with Casey Kelly are supposed to be the two prosects closest to "untouchable" in the Red Sox system.  He's a 19 year old from Rhode Island who was committed to college and fell to the Red Sox in the 5th round in2008.  Signed for $1.6m.  BA I believe had him as the Red Sox #7 prospect before he even played a game in the minors.

Okay, if San Diego got Buchholz, Masterson, Lowrie, and Anderson, that would be the trade of the decade for the Padres.

they have enough since they are willing to sign high demand guys who slide in the draft, and Gonzalez is young, affordable, and producing in the worst park with the worst lineup in baseball

If Washburn's ERA jumped a run and a half, would it be a surprise?

I wouldn't call Nationals Park the "worst park".... ;)

I'm cool with that.  Linty - Hagadone was the Sox #1 from 2008.  Had some arm surgery last fall and was just coimng back in Low A.  Doing well.  BA loves him and had him pretty highly ranked despite the surgery.  Here's a few links to opinions about him from SoSH's "Adopt a prospect" thread -

23, but already throwing 97 - 98 with 3:1 K/BB ratio and 12+ k/9.  Limiting his innings to about 3/ start this year.

Here's my problem.

We get Knapp from the Phills who throws 100 but is out with arm problems... we get Hagadone who had arm surgery.

For the type of players they dumped... they should be getting prospects that are healthy and good bets to stay that way.

Masterson is not chopped liver, but yes, for a year and a half of martinez you'd like more.  This is a salary dump, mostly, but it also clears space for your prospects (Santana, Marson, Gimenez at catcher, and your 1b prospects, too - Beau Mills?).

You have to look at the awful contract they gave Travis Hafner and not feel that the Indians don't want any part of a large contract.

I don't have a clue what they're going to do with that situation.

Obviously Santana is the star in that group.

I think? they're grooming Marson as a backup... Shoppack is still here so I don't know what's up with him. Gimenez is turning into a utility guy.

There is just too many guys for too little spots. What the Indians lineup of the future/next year SHOULD look like.

C: Santana
1B: LaPorta (or Mills... but Mills has been pretty awful in AA this year)
2B: Valbuena (Donald might be another option I suppose... but see Mills and his time in AA)
SS: Cabrera
3B: Marte, Hodges, Chisenhall (whichever sticks is fine with me... Chisenhall is only in A ball though... so he's got a way to go)
LF: Sizemore
CF: Brantley (Not a chance he gets to stay in CF with King Grady there though)
RF: Crowe
DH: Hafner

The problem with our roster is that Eric Wedge is a freaking moron and does not play young players. Andy Marte gets called up on Tuesday and goes 2/3 with a walk. His reward? A spot on the bench for Wednesday's game. Same thing with LaPorta. These guys will never be more than utility players (Wedge's favorite type of player I might add) if they don't get a chance to play every single day at the MAJOR league level...not minors. He ruins their confidence and then gets pissed when they don't get clutch hits in spot duty. The guy is 100 times worse than Manny ever was.

Hodges was the guy I was thinking about.  If Marte can hold 3d, does Hodges shift to first?

What did they get out of the 3 way with the Mets and Mariners?  Joe Smith and . . .

Valbuena, who should be good in the future but right now he belongs in AAA.

hagadone was a 2007 pick, good August in Lowell, arm injury last spring so missed almost all of 2008, just coming back in june or july at greenville.  Also a salem rhp, bryan price, is supposed to be in the deal.  Shapiro is going for quantity of good young arms and hoping one is a stud.

Mets were also after LaRoche.   Maybe we can do a deal there at the last minute for nick.

I'm actually most excited about Graham Connor the kid the Indians picked up from the Rockies for Betancourt.

Heard the Tribe might convert him to closer.
