He should definitely be in consideration. He's our own Matt Cain. Which is why he won't win.

RT @NationalsPR: In 6 July starts, Zimmermann went 4-0 with an 0.97 ERA, leading all qualified pitchers.

Zimmermann leaps to top of wide-open NL Cy Young field

Though we'll never know for sure, the trade deadline may have altered the National League Cy Young race by sending Ryan Dempster, the major league ERA+ leader, and Zack Greinke to the other league. Dempster hadn't factored in my rankings due to his two disabled list stints, and Greinke had a 3.44 ERA for the Brewers, but it's not out of the question that either could have entered the race with a strong final two months.

my guess is Dickey wins if this works

Quote
Last month, the New York Mets, locked in the National League's wild card race but short on pitching, considered pitching knuckleballer R.A. Dickey every fourth day.

The idea had obvious appeal, but there was considerable downside as well. Changing Dickey's routine in the middle of his great season was risky, as was the idea of placing further strain on Dickey's body, when he throws a particularly hard knuckleball and has generally experienced other aches and pains.

Anyway, the points were all moot, it appeared, when the Mets dropped 14 of 16 to fall out of the race. Even after a 2-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants Wednesday night, the Mets find themselves 8.5 games behind Atlanta for the final wild card spot, and 11 games behind Washington for the division lead.

So naturally, the Mets are ... going forward with the plan anyway.

Actually JUST behind Vogelsong of the Giants (2.22 ERA). Jordan Zimmermann has a 2.28 ERA. If he does well tomorrow he could very well get below Vogelsong.

Vogelsong gave up 4 ER over 6.1 tonight which raised him to 2.38.

Bump. 11 K's, 0 BB's and 87 pitches in 6 innings. Fantastic outing for him tonight, his ERA has dropped to 2.35.

Has Dickey slowed down at all?  I think he has, but I may be making that up.  Gio has some nice numbers as well - especially K's and W's.

Dickey had a few hiccups, and now his ERA "spiked" to 2.78. He was pretty solid against the Fish today, though.
