None in this organization.

Saltalamacchia is a FA in the offseason. We should go all in on him.

Pierzynski and McCann are also FAs in the offseason if we want someone cheaper and with more experience.

there is no way we should go all in on Saltalamacchia. The guy is not very good, and he is a pretty bad defensive catcher. He almost always swings for the fences, goes through long slumps and then occasionally will bounce some balls off the monster in left or just run into mistake fastballs and crush them. that is pretty much the entirety of his contribution to a team because he cannot field. If people mindfact him into a good player and are somehow talking about signing him to a fat contract, they are craaazy.

How will they be better next season? You will be looking at the same roster next season. Every position is filled except for maybe catcher and a bench spot or two. You will be looking at the same scrub lineup that is among the worst offensive teams in baseball this year.

How about the lerners become like the pirates and kc royals? Maybe then you atleast appreciate that the owners and rizzo are trying to put a winnning product on the field. It's just one of those things that didn't workout this year. I'm sure once they get hot you will love them again.

He hated this team last year when they won 98 games.

It's his shtick.

If the Nationals want even a chance at the top pick next season they need to start losing. Now. The panic monkeys can keep pointing out how many games are left and there IS still time but it's looking less and less likely to happen.

Approach it one game at a time. Just keep losing series and they'll be in it at the end of the season.

Were the Nationals only at .500 those seasons? Most teams that are in contention for the bottom spot have managed to put themselves ~20 games or  below .500 or more at this point in the season. I just don't see it happening.

2008 came down to the wire, only an inspired run at philly combined with a mariners collapse against oakland saved the season

Very true. We could be looking at Dustin Ackley instead of Strasburg. Those shouting about not drafting Trout would be in a real huff then.

I agree this isn't a thread that's worthwhile to spend time on.  Only reason I even looked at it today is I'm clearing some emails and noticed a post was flagged.  I think one of the other mods dealt with it.

Let me remind you - you see a troll post or something that is objectionable, report it.  I don't look at every thread (this might be the first or second time I've looked at this one) so there's a good chance I'm not going to pick it up, and if I'm at work I'm not on constantly.  The same is true for the other mods.  If we do see trolling, we'll delete, or mute if it is a repeat problem child.  Sometimes, we'll confer whether more needs to be done.

They drop below .500, they deserve it.

We are squarely in the middle of the pack in MLB. Didn't realize how many teams have tanked lately. I could still see us finishing worse than the Angels, Rockies, Blue Jays, Giants, and Mets who are all ahead of us right now in the race.

I thinks this team has what it takes to land a protected pick- just the right combination of suck and quit with a layer of inept management

They're just four games out of the #5 pick.  I say they do it.
