Game-Winning, 2-Run single by Chris Curran in the 10th inning to give Hagerstown their first victory of the season.

awful loss by Harrisburg. they led 1-0 going into the 8th and then Jack Spraldin gave up 2 runs and they ended up losing 2-1.

Wilkie came in relief of Spraldin and pitched 2/3 of an inning of scoreless ball.

Still haven't heard any news of Cory. Hope he's okay.

Balester had a wild pitch in there too . It scored a run. He was cruising and then threw strikes, that they hit for singles and then lost Control.  ( Composure)  He had only thrown 43 pitches in the first 3 innings and ended up throwing 27 more in the 4th.
I will tell you that if he gets through a 4th inning he won't lose. If not...

I personally think Bergmann and Mock are ready and waiting in AAA. It will take until  May and Bally will be ready as well.

I bet Bergmann and Mock are pissed. It will be interesting to see if they pitch well.

They will. They had the options plus they are about the only pitchers that are doing well as of now. they will get the call.

Thanks for the report Spinman.  We're all rooting for Bally to do well (especially yours truly HammondsNats).  As cliche as this sounds he just needs to go out there and have fun.  Last year in AAA he was what like 9-3, with a solid k/bb ratio.  He has the stuff to overpower hitters, he needs to trust it and go out and use that laid back (surfer haha) attitude to force opposing hitters out.

I still see him as part of the Nats rotation for years to come, I really do.

Atwood sucks.  Wilkie has promise.  Bergey and Mock should be fuming.  Bums like Ledezma and Tavarez have their spots.

Haven't we been over this, children? Tavarez has been tough as nails. When/if he becomes terrible, we bring up Mock or Bergmann. If they don't understand that, then they need to be more professional.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned McGeary's dayview:
5.2 IP 3 H 1 BB 7 K's

Great start for him and the Suns got their first win of the season. Hopefully their bats will start heating up soon. It'll be interesting to see how P. Arnold opens up down there as well!

damn, Kip Wells pitched well today against the same team that Balester and JZ had struggles against. :?

5 IP 3 H 0 R 0 ER 1 BB 5 K.

Tyler Clippard just entered the game in relief of him. I wonder if he is going to be in a relief role for good.. That might be a good place  for him.

Good line for Kip. Honestly I'd rather see JZ get more time in AAA and come up later in the year. If D. Price isn't ready to pitch in the ML I don't see why were rushing JZ up here and we're not even competing for a ship this year. Btw A. Cintron continues to impress after a nice ST.

-Nice 3-0 win for the Chiefs today. Great performances by Kip Wells (Win), Tyler Clippard (Hold), and Jason Bergmann (Save).

-Looks like Clippard is going to remain in the starting role but they just don't have a spot for him at the moment:

      3 IP 4 H 0 R 0 ER 1 BB 2 K (56 pitches, 39 strikes)

-Bergmann came on and threw 7 pitches in the 9th inning for the save: 1 IP 1 H 0 R 0 ER 0 BB 0 K.

-Brad Eldred went 3/3 with 2 Doubles, a Single, RBI, Walk, and a HBP.

Senators' VanAllen hit above left eye with line drive
Posted by GEOFF MORROW, Of The Patriot-News April 10, 2009 19:53PM

Cory VanAllen, the Harrisburg Senators' starting pitcher Friday night against Reading, was struck in the left side of his face with a line drive in the third inning at FirstEnergy Stadium. With two outs and a runner on first base, VanAllen fired a 2-1 pitch to the Phillies' Quintin Berry, whose liner up the middle pelted the left-hander and ricocheted toward third base for a single.
VanAllen stumbled forward, covered his face, then fell to the turf. Managers and trainers immediately ran onto the field, brought a towel for the blood, attended to him for a few minutes and escorted him off the field and into the clubhouse. RHP Zack Segovia relieved VanAllen, a 24-year-old from Texas who, ironically, wasn't even scheduled to pitch Friday night. He was slated to start Tuesday in Trenton, but LHP Justin Jones, originally slated to pitch this game, is sick and was unable to throw Friday night.

UPDATE: VanAllen received stitches at Reading Hospital and underwent tests, results of which were not available as of late Friday night. But pitching coach Randy Tomlin and manager John Stearns were cautiously confident VanAllen would be OK. They said he was walking and talking in the clubhouse and actually angry that he was forced from a game in which he was pitching so effectively before visiting the hospital.

Detwiler having the same problems that have plagued his career.  Lack of control, leading to strings of hits.  He has 2 strikeouts and 2 walks already through 3 innings, as well as 3 hits.  He hasn't been helped by the defense at all.  Rhinehart mishandled a would-be pickoff throw from Detwiler and Michael Martinez had an errant throw.  Martinez is also having a tough season at the plate so far.  Out of his 5 at-bats this season, 3 have been GIDP.

And Desmond ties up the game in the 4th, driving in Leonard Davis.  Desmond is looking to have a big season.

Detwiler seems like a lost cause.  Hopefully he becomes tradeable at some point.

I'm not ready to give up on him yet and actually think that he may eventually be best served switching to the pen.  I hate it when it comes to that, but he seems incapable of keeping his pitch count down.  He has the stuff to be a very good 1 inning type of guy and has proven it in the past.

I'm listening to the game, doesn't sound so good.  The numbers only say so much.  He is getting behind in counts, throwing way too many balls, I would be surprised if he lasts five innings.  It is the same problems he has had season after season.  He can pitch well for an inning or two and then out of nowhere he just loses it.

it's his first start in AA. new stadiums, new environment, new team. apparently the first run was unearned too.
