Votes versus statistics, I guess.

I think they should just let the fans vote for one player on each team.

That is an interesting idea, how would the process work in that case?

They need to develop a player rater of some kind. There are already some good ones out there, but they all have more than a few flaws.

Player rater?

Here's ESPN's: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2897967

It's just OK. I've actually seen better ones used by fantasy sites.

Ok I get what you are talking about now.  I don't like the system that is in place for selecting All-Stars currently, I hope they find a way to tweak the system.

Yogi's getting old too.  Mumbling, not even sure he knows what he's saying.  Not that he ever has, but nothing's even intelligible, except for when he yelled at Joe Buck.  That was kind of funny.

Joe Saunders is a DC area local.  He was in my relative's class at West Springfield High School, and is the only MLB graduate of Virginia Tech.

It looks like the game, and Joe Buck will still be a moron.

OT: Someone asked me to take these 10 Markakis pics (not a video) and turn them into a GIF file for him. I think it's damn cool. I want to get pics of some Nats so I can do the same thing.

The fact that Jason Varitek is there is a complete joke and an insult to so many other players.

I agree with you SSB, Joe Sheehan over at BP put a little bit of perspective on the selection for me, although it was more because he was a Red Sox player, IMO.  Sherril was a questionable pick also, I think that Markakis or Roberts deserved to be elected (or selected by the manager) over Sherril who has a 4.02 RA, 1.41 WHIP, and 43/24 KK/BB rate (nowhere near any other pitcher selected).

Quote
The most controversial player selection was probably Jason Varitek, who was elected in the worst season of his career: .218/.300/.358. While this provides a big target, when you look at the available options, Varitek’s selection is almost understandable. Joe Mauer is the best catcher in the league. The candidates, other than Varitek, are Jorge Posada, who missed most of the first half, and Victor Martinez, who played nearly as badly as Varitek did. Other than Mauer, no AL catcher has put up a 15.0 VORP. I’m not sure selecting the adequate bounceback seasons of A.J. Pierzynski or Ivan Rodriguez would have been that much of an improvement on Varitek. I love Dioner Navarro (Bandwagon!), and he was a manager’s pick, but he’s from the great-first-half category of All-Stars. Varitek is here basically because he was the choice of a plurality of people who didn’t vote for Mauer. That’s not a ringing endorsement—it’s just something that happened.

Tell me again, why do we rise and stand at attention for God Bless America?  When did this become our National Anthem 2.0?  It's a great song and all, but really?  Is it really equal to the Star Spangled Banner?  I say no.

Yeah. Given that it is the 7th inning stretch, people are standing anyway, so I don't mind. But I don't remove my cap. I actually think it is wrong for them to ask people to remove their caps. That should only be for the anthem and for the presentation of colors. Treating God Bless America in the same way doesn't seem right to me. And it may even be viewed as improper protocol or even disrespectful by some folks.
