Pissed is different than the stuff he's saying.  Hell, people are pissed at Zimmerman right now (well, before 5 minutes ago)

I was tacitly admitting that I was saying some of that stuff. :P

Ugh, WTF WAS THAT THROW, NIX?

I don't think clutch hitting is an illusion, but I do think a clutch hitting skill is mostly an illusion at the major league level.  Which is to say, if it exists, it's really insignificant.

It would be silly to say clutch situations don't exist - that's assuming the players are all robots. I joke about clutch enhancing drugs though. I'm not sure anyone can be better.

awful. He deserved that. 2 hits to two weak singles hitters to blow the lead.

I am not at all comfortable with Lannan pitching the rest of this game.

Because statistically speaking it has been definitively shown to be an illusion?  That's how.  It's not a repeatable skill.  It's just luck.

This isn't a disputed matter anymore.

Are you saying certain players don't respond to clutch situations better than others? What about athletes like Tom Brady and Michael Jordan? Different sport but the same pressure would apply, no?

Jordan is considerably more athletic and Brady is more intelligent than the other players.

It's cool, it's about time we played (and won) a normal game where both teams scored some runs, before extra innings.

Not disputed among people who have actually studied it mathematically... I mean, I suppose you can find people who will dispute evolution, too.

Condescending response aside, I think you missed the joke.

Sucky, too many fat pitches. He can't keep weaseling out of these jams. He's been very lucky so far. Giving up lots of hard hit balls

4th   A Callaspo singled to left, B Abreu scored, V Wells to second.   2   1
4th   P Bourjos singled to right, V Wells scored, A Callaspo thrown out at third.

Nationals  2
Angels      2

If you look at Jordan's clutch splits / playoff splits throughout his career, they're actually pretty similar to his regular season ones... e.g., he has more PPG in the postseason but it's because he played more minutes.  That's not to say that clutch might not exist in sports like basketball--for example, a recent study found a small but significant difference in FT% in clutch situations (about 2%).  But in professional baseball, specifically, as distinguished from, say, college or amateur baseball, there has been no significant clutch split observed, nor has a statistically significant, predictive "clutch hitting skill" been found.

Using Matt Stairs means this team really isn't serious about winning!  >:(

Is it wrong to hope that stairs gets pegged in the nards?

Hairston has been swinging a hot bat as has Bixler. Why not DH one of them instead?!

Hopefully Davey told Stairs that today was his last chance to prove his worth.  I can't take this team seriously as a competitor with Stairs continuing to get opportunities.  I'm sure it won't be too difficult to find a guy that will strike out/pop out every at bat in AAA.
