Municipalities are realizing that stadiums are boondoggles. Sports like soccer without enormous fan bases pressuring cities to keep or lure teams are probably going to be the first to get hit

I've determined that starting with the 2011 MLS season, I am definitely going to make a conscious effort to follow and support Soccer with far more of an attentive gaze than I used to.

DC United and MLS specifically, and World soccer generally.

It's really tight at the top of the table...Man U is out ahead, but not by all that much, and Spurs (and Bolton?!?) are in easy range.  Sunderland only got promoted to the EPL a couple of years ago, and they are sitting nicely as well, only a few points out of Euro qualification at the moment.

Sunderland have gotten great contributions from the players they got on loan this season, especially Welbeck and Onuoha.

Watch out for Stoke, too. Their "long ball" style is tough for most teams to defend. I really like Kenwyne Jones.

watching Arsenal/Chelsea with my daughter.

still not sure why I should give a crap about the EPL instead of MLS, but I'm watching cause it is Soccer.

Better players, better league.

seems like there are only 4 teams worth watching in the EPL.

but regardless, the league may have better players, but there is really nothing there to attach me to the league at all.

I am not sure how I can be a fan of the league. it's just me I guess.

I'll watch EPL when the big four play each other. beyond that I'll follow MLS.

Does the soccer "season" ever end?  I think I see soccer scores crawl across the ESPN screen, all year long.

not really, there is always some overlap among leagues in different hemispheres and the leagues probably run like 9 months

eh, if there is nothing to attach me to a team (geography/history, etc..) I have a hard time developing a rooting interest. I guess that's why I never really caught on to college football (went to a IAA school) and live in Northern Virginia, so no real local teams

That's a nag of a drive to go to games, besides they don't call it University of New Jersey Charlottesville because admissions polices favor local kids

nothing, I'm too tired to really think, just saying it's not a local school in the same way some large state universities are
