It looked like Ramirez had not even touched third when Bernie picked it up and his throw looked like it was from deep short.  hard to believe he beat it, but the tag was not there.

Pudge didn't block the plate.

Terrible.

Generally, catchers first try to catch the incoming throw, before they are afforded the opportunity to block the plate.

I will never understand why the players are not in a circle punching Morgan (without his helmet on) after a game like this one. Talk about pissing in Zimmermann's Wheaties.

Kinda makes it a moot point if you don't....

Even if that's the case, he had plenty of time to make a tag low on the leg. Not on the chest.

Which eliminates the "block the plate" comment.  Sludge needed to DIVE back to the plate to try and make the tag on the foot.

God damnit. Storen has been awful lately.

He's had 1 bad performance and 2 meh ones after 6 good ones in a row and 12 of 13.  I'll take a 3 game mini slump out of a rookie closer.  Nyjer has been awful, Storen is hitting some bumps in the road.

So:

- Zimmermann, Peralta, and Clippard gave up one hit over nine innings

- Morgan makes another unbelievable play. Hmmm. When Soriano was a rookie, the Yankees radio announcers talked him up to a nauseating extent. One evening, Sterling/Kay said, "That Al-fon-so Sor-iano...every game, this kid does something new that makes you smile...and some-times laugh...out...loud".  Same for Morgan, only people are laughing with sarcastic astonishment.

Generally, catchers first try to catch the incoming throw, before they are afforded the opportunity to block the plate.

And if he doesn't, and blocks the plate without the ball, it is obstruction and the runner is given the plate. Rule 7.06

Quote
NOTE: The catcher, without the ball in his possession, has no right to block the pathway of the runner attempting to score. The base line belongs to the runner and the catcher should be there only when he is fielding a ball or when he already has the ball in his hand.

I'm not wishing it, it's inevitable
An elbow can't withstand throwing 103 repeatedly

Once again, Nyjer defended in the post game. "He didn't have time to slide."

What the freak? 90 feet isn't enough time to decide to slide?

Best he can???  So we should expect losses from him?

I'm a fan of his but he has been bad recently and deserved the loss tonight.

I'm just frustrated with the lost and as a matter of face just started to watch the games every night so his earlier season success doesn't mean as much to me as it does to other fans here. My bad, you're right.
