Oh, I'm actually not an IPA guy either.

I loves me some brown ale and wheaty stuff.  Flying Dog has a killer Wheat Ale, the other two have awesome brown ales.

I've grown to like pale ales now.  They have them all over Southern Cali.

Is Guzman hitting .333? Are we 8-7 right now? Did Guzman bang your wife/girlfriend/boyfriend?

He is hitting .333 despite a .415 BABIP and an embarrassing .346 OBP. Once he regresses, he will be exposed. 1 BB to 10 K will not get it done. Just play Desmond everyday and platoon Guzman with Kennedy.

You mean play him like Bobby Cox played Jordan Schafer last year? No thanks.

Benching a hot bat is just dumb. Bench him when he stops hitting.

Since when is a .346 OBP embarrassing?

When you have a .333 BA. The only problem is that there is little evidence of a hot hand. Guzman is just as likely to hit .200 the rest of the way as he is to hit .333. By your logic, if the team had Joe Mauer, you would bench him for Pudge because Pudge is hot right now and his stats are better after a 2 week sample.

Willie Harris batting third? I understand his line vs Ubaldo is nice but third? With the lack of Willingham and Zimm this is when Id LIKE to see Guz batting third.

The reverse psychology is 1-1 this series.  Many thought Stammen was gonna get Roxed and he didn't.  Many thought Olsen was gonna get Roxed and he did.
Most of the time when I have said that this year it has worked but not even the reverse psychology jinx could save Olsen's sorry ass a few nights ago. :lmao:

From Kilgore who calls this lineup..."unique"

Quote
Third baseman Ryan Zimmerman is not in today's starting lineup after leaving last night's game with some kind of cramp/strain in his right hamstring. Zimmerman's absence is only part of a very different Nationals lineup.

Cristian Guzman will start in right field for the first time and Josh Willingham will sit out for the first time this year. Willie Harris is batting third, something he has never done to start a game in 473 career starts. Harris may be hitting .192, but he has a .333 on-base percentage and he's slugging .500. If the Nationals beat Ubaldo Jimenez, who threw a no-hitter his last time out, with this lineup, I'm asking Jim Riggleman for stock tips.

Truth. You basically summed up exactly how I feel.

Guzman's success is no more than a simple dice roll. If you cannot get on base with walks, or hit for consistent power, relying on average only will eventually fail you.

A .346 OBP is a .346 OBP. Nothing embarrassing about it.

He's hitting .333 right now. I'd say he has a hot bat.

If Desmond was Joe Mauer, I'd be nagging, too.

And when it does, you bench him.  Duh.  I seriously think Guz pinched a deuce in you and GMU's wheaties.

Guzman hit .316 with a .345 OBP just two years ago. He doesn't walk, but I'd be fine with those numbers again.

But, what's to support he's even capable of that?

Since he got lasik, his line is .302 with a .328 OBP.

Guzman in RF is a captial idea. He's a switch hitter and can play there till he's traded if he's ok with the glove.

Sitting Hammer is an awful, awful idea. Way to kill a hot streak.

Nothing wrong with giving Hammer an off-day. Dunn could have used one too. This game would be nice to win but it isn't a must win.

We're going to argue over .013 OBP?

The fact that he did it for a full season just two years ago. That's enough for me.

But you guys are missing the point. If he does start to slump, then take him the hell out of the lineup and make him a late inning guy. It's really that simple. He isn't hurting the team at all RIGHT NOW.

That is kind of misleading.  In the two years after lasik he batted .319/.354/.446.  He was killing it after he got the surgery.  He was hampered by injuries last year and it may or may not have led to a dip in production.

It's pretty bad if one day off kills a hot streak. Injuries kill hot streaks.

Hammer has played everygame ... everyone needs an off day.  This team has played/will play so many games in a row without an off day.  It's okay.

With his history of back troubles, a day off is a good thing.

And what I'm trying to say is that Riggs never will bench him. You guys can't seriously believe Riggleman would ever pull him. Hell, Guzman isn't even supposed to be a starter and he's second on the team in at-bats.

His fielding is worse than ever, yet he's playing more and more.

Have you ever heard of starting Pete Orr because you respect veterans?

Call me loopy, call me whatever... but I'm sticking to my guns on this one. Riggs will not stop playing Guzman or Taveras, or any other veteran that hasn't done anything in years because he respects them.

Rizzo will have to forcefully remove them from the roster for anything to happen.
