I hope they can land a Nats affiliate. I'll still go though.

If they are the short season Nats affiliate, I'll be heading out there for sure.

Souza with a 3R HR in the bottom of the ninth, 6-5 hillcats. Scoreboard has been a mess tonight and is now completely out.

yeah, they had a few left and fortunately we got there around 5:30.  They are a lot nicer than I expected, i'll have to post a photo later.  They had given out most of them Friday before they called the game.

Souza, Hood and Smoker were the stars of the game.  Souza made a few great plays at first and hit a bomb to RF.  He looked way better than Marrero last year.  Smoker pitched well, 1 hit over 1.1 with 1BB and 2Ks.  Hood was all over RF and looked great at the plate.

A big "Boo" to the Pfitz.  Aside from the lack of Ben's Chili Bowl, the field was an absolute mess.  I've seen little league fields in far better shape.  There are a bunch of long groves cut into the outfield that look like wonderful opportunities for players to tear up their knees or ankles.  The scoreboard was a mess.  For the first couple of innings they had Jeff Kobernus' picture up no matter who was batting.  The board kept locking up and was rarely in sync with the game.  They completely shut it down in the 9th inning.

Also, they didn't mike the church choir that sang the national anthem, so nobody could hear anything.  On the plus side we got a ton of autographs and chatted with several players.  The crowd was great (except for the kid behind us with the vuvuzuela), pretty full on the 1B side, and the fireworks show is always fantastic.

Maybe they alternate Ben's and Barbeque.   The year before Ben's came, they had VA bbq.

I felt bad for Dykstra, it was an obvious check-swing strike, but he stood there at home for a good 15 seconds after the 2nd base ump called him out, absolutely dumfounded as the Hillcats celebrated.  They had him DH'ng and batting ninth, probably not a good sign for his long-term future.

There's enough room for both. :-)  Va BBQ was pretty good, but I had my heart set on a half-smoke all-the-way.

Souza looked great at the plate when I saw him a few times late last year.  He has been plagued by inconsistency and injuries the last couple years.  He has the tools and abilities (great power) to be a very good player if could only pull them together.  Good to hear that he might have finally found a place defensively at first base.  He is still pretty young too.

there was also that um, little problem with PEDs that landed him a 50 game suspension.

Well, if you consider ADHD medications (methyphenidate and ritalinic acid) PEDs then true.

well, unfortunately the league does, my point was that the suspension hampered his development.

I'm not disagreeing, just saying that there is a bit of a difference between HGH/steroids and ADHD meds.  Regardless, he has to keep it together for a whole season before anyone will start taking him too seriously again.

For this year, sure, but are you telling me the team wouldn't jump for joy moving to Cumberland?

Souza hit his 2nd in as many games today.  Hopefully he didn't go all Manny on us. :)

Perez with 4SB in 2 games.
