Look here perhaps?

I think you said you had one on Verizon, so you want the CDMA thread.

There are also better versions of winmo (ie "cooked roms") out there.

sprint. but yeah cdma

hrm. apparently, this stupid windows mobile won't show the internal 4GB of storage that is supposed to be on this phone.

and thusly, I can't access the phone through my PC to install the roms. on my device the internal storage reads as "Not Installed". and when I try to access my phone plugged into a PC, it just freezes.

god, windows mobile sucks.

Nice.  How does it run on that hardware, though?  I thought the Diamond was a bit low on RAM and I've heard that android is a dog on devices with low specs.

well it isn't flawless, thats for sure.

there are issues with ringtones, and whenever I make a phone call, my screen goes totally black and the phone freezes. looking into solutions for those, or maybe I just install 2.1 instead of 2.2

oh and the camera doesn't work.

i'll be sticking with winmo primarily until this stuff gets worked out, but I'll use android occasionally.

The best thing about your phone is that it doesn't make calls.

oh no, the calls go through.

I just can't do anything afterwards...like hang up.

it's probably a glitch with the new build of XDAndroid 2.2. apparently 2.1 worked great.

eh, we'll see. its not like I am stuck with android when its not working right. all I have to do is turn my phone off then back on, and I am right back in Windows Mobile.

so i got the phone calls and ringtone issues fixed.

only thing now that I see is that the camera doesn't work(i can live with that for now) and the default battery meter is unreliable(which just means I need to download a battery meter app).\

everything else works like a charm!

I got a dual-boot app too, since xdandroid doesn't replace windows mobile completely.

only reason I need to use windows mobile on my phone now, is to take pictures.

Going to install a new OS tonight.  FreeBSD or Arch Linux?

I want something that I start with a base system and build up.

Yeah, that's why I steer clear of Slackware.  I like bleeding edge

I could go Gentoo too I guess.  But I don't know how active that is anymore.

Actually, Slackware's latest release, 13.1, is only a few months old.

I'm intrigued by the BSD way, but I don't know if any of the releases support WiFi at all out of the box, and I want to do a network install to pull the latest packages.  I believe Arch might have the config tools on the ftp install disc.

Now this is pretty damn funny (and damning).  Straight From Linus Torvalds himself:

Quote
Linus Torvalds  -  Feb 28, 2012  -  Public
Venting.

I don't think I can talk about "security" people without cursing, so you might want to avert your eyes now.

I gave OpenSUSE a try, because it worked so well at install-time on the Macbook Air, but I have to say, I've had enough. There is no way in hell I can honestly suggest that to anybody else any more.

I first spent weeks arguing on a bugzilla that the security policy of requiring the root password for changing the timezone and adding a new wireless network was moronic and wrong.

I think the wireless network thing finally did get fixed, but the timezone never did - it still asks for the admin password.

And today Daniela calls me from school, because she can't add the school printer without the admin password.

Whoever moron thought that it's "good security" to require the root password for everyday things like this is mentally diseased.

So here's a plea: if you have anything to do with security in a distro, and think that my kids (replace "my kids" with "sales people on the road" if you think your main customers are businesses) need to have the root password to access some wireless network, or to be able to print out a paper, or to change the date-and-time settings, please just kill yourself now. The world will be a better place.

.. and now I need to find a new distro that actually works on the Macbook Air.

I guess you must prefer Windows 7 since that's where most of your hits are from :poke:
