Gameday Thread: Nationals vs Mets, Game 3 (L)
« Topic Start: April 13, 2006, 11:32:42 AM »

Victor Zambrano (0-0, -.--)
Zambrano was to have started the second game of the season, but a strained left hamstring changed his schedule. Then the rainout Saturday pushed his '06 debut to Thursday. Now we'll see what else -- if anything -- has changed about him. Willie Randolph and Rick Peterson anticipate he will have a much better season now that his arm is more than a year removed from the problem -- a strained flexor muscle -- in his right elbow that developed shortly after he was acqiuired. General manager Omar Minaya often points to the lack of run support afforded Zambrano. And it is true that the veteran pitcher allowed three or fewer runs in 20 of his 27 starts last season. But he also didn't complete the sixth inning in five of the 20.

Livan Hernandez (1-1, 5.25)
Hernandez will face Mets for the second time this season. On April 3, he gave up three runs in six innings as New York won the game, 3-2. In his last outing, Hernandez had one bad inning that almost proved to be costly. The Astros scored five runs in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run home run by Lance Berkman. Hernandez settled down and gave up one run in the next five innings as the Nationals ended up winning the game, 12-8.

Well, if we're gonna win one, you'd think it would be with Livo on the mound.

Let's Go Nats!!!!!!

I just heard something about the new Nats "DC" alternate home uniform getting its debut today...any truth to this?  Kinda hard to tell from MLB radio.

A win today and a sweep of the Marlins and we're feeling good.

I think the O will come around.

Armas has had 2 good starts. Drese was alright.

We could be OK in the pitching dept.

The bullpen is getting strained because we have to pinch hit in the 6 inning.

Better O---> leave starters in longer----> Help out the Pen

I was gonna comment on how great Livo looked out there, seeing as he got 2 outs with 3 pitches but this is pathetic.

I have a lot of complaints about the start of this season, but by far my biggest is that we have the whopping THREE home games in the first, what, THREE (?!?) weeks!  And all three are during the week, and TWO of which are on weekdays!!  What Einstein cooked this one up?!

Owner, RFK, schedule...these all share a common point:  Excuses.

There are no excuses for lack of offense and horrid defense except the players themselves.

Well, my angst about the schedule has a more personal component - I want to go to games before we're 20 games under .500 (though I'll go to those, too)
