With 2 outs in the 9th, Carp said that the Nats were about to do something they haven't done all year. But would save it for the last out. I didn't catch what he meant after the game.... Anyone catch it?

Also note that there has only been one other 1 inning, 2 homer, 3 strikeout save in MLB history.

Billy Wagner has the other.

Makes sense... Clippard really had pretty good stuff tonight and was hitting his spots for the most part.  But homers will happen from time to time when you live way up in the zone.

The first post has one of those arrow thingy's (to move to the right side, for people who don't have 17" PC's.  If you press Enter after your last line, and then a period or 3 on the next line (...), your lowest line won't get blocked by that arrow thingy.

Comparative dates on which the Nationals notched their 53rd win, each season:

2005 - 16th July (91st match of season)
2012 - 18th July (89th match)
2011 - 2nd August (109th match)
2007 - 9th August (115th match)
2006 - 16th August (120th match)
2010 - 21st August (123rd match)
2008 - 1st September (138th match)
2009 - 28th September (156th match)*

*This was the start of the seven-match winning streak (sweeps of Mets home and Braves away) that ended the season for the Nightmare Nine of '09 and put just a tiny bit of dignity on the horrific campaign - prior to that they were well within range of losing fully 2/3 of their matches.

---

THIS DAY WITH THE '05 OVERACHIEVERS: Monday 18th July 2005 saw the Nats lose at home to the Colorado Rockies, 5-4, in the first of a three-match series, with the winning run scoring off Chad Cordero thanks to a Castilla error...record now 53-40...http://espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=250718120.
