PaNats assured Dunn of Comeback POY. How amazing is it that he came back when PaNats buried his career? More impressive than an MVP IMO

And?

Well, the record is 223.

Still, Dunn is having an awesome season.  He looked pretty much washed up last season but he's the same old Dunn this year with huge power and pretty good patience.  The K's you can live with if he's hitting bombs like he has been.

Well, I for one thought Dunn was finished after last year.  After watching him in person on dozens of occasions, it appeared to me that his basic skills had diminished to a level where he would have to retire. It appeared to be more than just a slump -- it was like he was outclassed, couldn't see the ball, couldn't time it.  it was a similar concept to what I saw recently at the end of Jermaine Dye's career, or Ken Griffey Jr., where they just didn't have it anymore.  You recall what they had, and the current product was no where near.  I am as happy as anyone else on this board who are fans/supporters of Adam Dunn that it has turned out otherwise.

Adam Dunn has as many home runs today as the Cubs and Padres have wins.

Adam Dunn is something like Espinosa-for-grownups: 58 BB + 119 K + .212 BA + 23 HR

Hard to imagine 119 strikeouts and 58 walks as of late June...that used to be a season total. Then a .212 BA?? How does he hit 23 HR's??

My question is kind of the opposite.  Even though there have been plenty of hitters like that in baseball history, my mind still boggles at the idea of someone hitting that many home runs and getting so few base hits otherwise.

Are they using the exaggerated shift against him? That takes away a lot of hits.

Yes.  I've never understood why Dunn (or any of the lefty thumpers this strategy is used against) don't attempt to poke a few down the third base line.  It would keep the infielders honest.

soxfan59 - I wonder with Dunn whether trying to go oppo on the ground would mess up his timing.

JCA-- he'd only have to do it once -- shorten up and poke it the other way.  No more "Ted Williams" style shift.

I can't speak for everyone, but my feeling is that the vast majority here liked Dunn or at least bear him no ill will.

When he was in town he was a well needed power bat. I was upset when he was traded away, but now we seem to be a bit better. We still probably need a Bench Power Bat.
