Seriously.  I laugh at people citing his low BA while mocking this signing.

McCutchen is a stud.  My mind may be blanking, but I have him as the 3rd best CFer in baseball, behind Kemp & Ellsburry.

Ellsburry has to be pretty pissed off right now.

Cameron said this:

Toss in aging curves and regress the defensive metrics a bit more than the offensive numbers, and McCutchen’s right there with Kemp and Granderson for the title of best center fielder in the game.

Why?

Because this is a team friendly contract and Ellsbury is an extension candidate. Their contract situations are totally different tho.

Removed the petulant response- I think the best comp will be Kemp and maybe Granderson if he resigns

No worries -- sometimes I hit post while I'm still formulating my thoughts.

MLBTR named Kemp and Crawford as comparable.

Union won't be happy with McCutchen.

yeah, Ellsbury is coming off a career year after being hurt, if he puts up another season like he did last year he should be looking at Kemp-money, but the push-back will be "look what Pittsburgh got McCutcheon for".

Union won't be happy with McCutchen.

if you were in a situation where you could guarantee $51 million today or $500,000 next year then $4 million then $6 million, then $10 million, then a change at free agency, but none of those years are guaranteed until the season starts, and an injury could leave you with nothing, which would you choose? I'd take the $51 sure thing

Me too  ....  my thought is along the lines that the union wants to build payroll.    They don't like it when someone doesn't toe the line or rock the boat.

Ellsbury was a MVP candidate last year and the Red Sox threw 150+ million at Crawford.

Where's Pittsburg?   Oh, you meant Pittsburgh.

 :poke:

It's in Kansas :)

There's a pretty good D3 school called Pittsburg State, they usually compete for the football championship every year.

The real Pittsburg is in California because no one cares about Kansas.

I was a Pirates fan well into adulthood.   The following article was the beginning of my leaving the flock:
