Quote
Over-the-top, fluid delivery. Lanky frame, still has some projection. Fastball sits between 88-90 mph with good sinking movement. Can induce a lot of groundballs, but he can also give up a lot of hard contact. Also has a 78-80 mph changeup that generates a lot of swings and misses. Throws two breaking balls - a low-80s slider and a low-70s curveball. Excellent control. Strong work ethic and desire to learn. Tough competitor. Underwent TJ Surgery in August 2007.

2011 AFL video:

At Harrisburg in 2013: 13 GS, 75.1 IP, 3.46 ERA, 1.075 WHIP, 59Ks, 17BB

Promoted to Syracuse in June 2013, (0-1, 2.70 ERA in 1GS)

Always good to see us pick up someone "after" they've had TJ.

Nice thread idea.

BTW - what a disaster that 2006 first round turned out to be for the Red Sox.  I think they took a high schooler from NC, Jason Place?, with their first pick that year, and I think maybe Daniel Bard as well along with Clay.  Bard made it to the majors as a reliever but has blown up in two years.  Place bombed out in A ball, and Clay they let walk.  Also I think they took later Lars Andersen who ended up a bust and Justin Masterson, who they traded in the Victor Martinez deal.

Of course, the year before that they took Ellsbury, Lowrie, and Buchholz (plus Craig Hansen and someone else) in the first round, so that was a bit better.

Damn nice outing last night.  7ip. 5 hits. 5K, 0 bb. No earned runs.   He's probably next in line for a call-up.
