But how can he not be the one sent down, even if he has good stuff.  Look at the performances of the other pitchers.  What would be the rationale for keeping him up over one of the other pitchers.

The only rationale would be to limit somebody's innings.

Martin hasn't done anything yet. the rain ruined his last outing. his 1st start was a disaster.

big start for him tomorrow.

He cannot or will not throw a first pitch strike.

He's been better than Mock.

Martin was looking sharp his last outing, albeit only briefly before the rain.  Balester gave up a lot of lengthy drives yesterday, but kept them in the park.

Mock is on the verge of having a "quality start".

Mock is not looking good, but like Sportsfan observes, he does have good stuff and enough pitches to make it as a starter.  McCatty has shown before he can get in guys heads and turn them around, so I still hold out hope he can get Mock through this adjustment period.

Admittedly it's looking like more of a longshot every outing, but still.

Are the odds stacked up against him or is it maybe that since he's pitched a couple bad outings the odds are in his favor to do well next time out?

Which says more about a "quality start" than anything.  There's nothing quality about his start tonight.

wow, retires 2-3-4 in order. nice K of Braun.

the offense really needs to put up some more runs if we want a chance.

I don't know about that.  Yeah, he's been a bit shaky, but things have not gotten out of control, and he just pitched a real nice 5th.  He has earned another inning.  This is an encouraging performance tonight.

It was the 5th.  He's still an inning away from "quality" and I'm not very confident that he'll get it.

Anyway, you're being far more generous than I'm capable of about this performance.  To call this performance "a bit shaky" is REALLY generous.

I'm on the ball with my responses.

FWIW, IMO, Balester's performance last night was "a bit shaky".  Compare my "a bit shaky" with your "a bit shaky".

Damn, that pitch hit for a double by Hart was a decent pitch, but he pulled it nicely.
