The article linked below contains four and a half pages about the financial mess that Lee County has created for itself by funding the Red Sox and Twins ballparks, the last half page covers the impact on the Nats, they asked the Lerner family to contribute to the ballpark fund, hahahahahaha...

The big impact of this is that when other Florida cities and counties read this article they are going to be a lot more reluctant to gift the Nats a new park.  Which is why I still see the most likely outcome being that the Nats end up sharing a park, either with the Astros in Kissimmee or with the Mets in Port St. Lucie.  In any case, if the Nats are moving in 2014, they're going to need to strike a deal real soon, the Nats beat writers all mentioned that this will be their last spring in Viera but I'm not so sure.

County officials had hoped to strike a deal that would have taken the Washington Nationals from Brevard County, but Commissioner John Manning didn’t seem optimistic about that possibility when he addressed the TDC earlier this month.

“When the Washington National’s proposal came in, the dollar amount was way up here and we didn’t have the capacity in (tourist taxes) at that time to really consider moving forward, unless there was some significant negotiations and changes in those numbers,” Manning said at the Nov. 16 meeting.

When Manning met with the Nationals, he suggested the team, city and county “all put skin in the game together,” he told the TDC.

“Well that didn’t happen,” he said.
