I have a baseball card of him as a player !!!     Damn, I'm old.    As a Pirate fan back then, I despised the Reds but could never stay mad at "Captain Hook".

Captain Hook- 3 World Series winners
Anderson and LaRussa the only managers to win a WS in both leagues

I forgive 1975.

I still blame Larry Barnett.

I can still remember Marty Brenneman saying after a Red's win " and this one belongs to the Reds!!!" ...and Joe Nuxnall saying after his post game radio show " I am rounding 3rd and heading for home!!!"
Sparky was a great manager. He got the best out of his Merv Rettenmund, Cesar Geranimo type of players.

By the way Sparky's radio show was called " The Main Spark!"
Very Fitting for a team called " The Big Red Machine!" RIP!

I was shocked when I heard this. There must be something more than dementia. When I heard he entered hospice care from complications from dementia, I figured he still had some time left. He was just in public earlier this year at a ball game I believe. To pass so rapidly from simply dementia, it just doesn't make much sense. Never mind he was only 76.

Regardless, a true loss to the world of baseball. Never mind that, a true loss to the world in general. He seemed like from all reports he was a truly great man.
