EAST             W   L    PCT    GB
Philadelphia   70  39  .642    ---    70-39 that works out to 104-58
Atlanta          63  48  .568   8.0    no Chipper no McCann no way
Florida          55  55  .500  15.5    pitching won't get them to WC
NY Mets        55  55  .500  15.5    will finish in last place
Washington   53  56  .486  17.0    If they stick with the plan..who knows?

It's ridiculous how good the Phillies are this year.  Even if they go .500 from here they still finish with 97 wins.

Here's how the rest of the season shapes up:

@ Rockies
@ Cubs
@ Phillies
vs Reds
vs Phillies
vs D-backs
@ Reds
@ Braves

We're 9 games out of the wild card lead with series left against teams that are either in the same situation as us (Reds, Rockies) and teams that are "contending" (D-backs, Braves, Phillies). Hell, we're playing the Braves and Phillies TWICE. That's huge.

Like I said, a little winning streak right about now would be perfect. In hockey, I'd call these "4 point games" because of how important they are in regards to climbing (or dropping) in the standings. :)

Comparative dates on which the Nationals notched their 53rd win, each season:

2005 - 16th July (91st match of season)
2011 - 2nd August (109th match)
2007 - 9th August (115th match)
2006 - 16th August (120th match)
2010 - 21st August (123rd match)
2008 - 1st September (138th match)
2009 - 28th September (156th match)*

*This was the start (2-1 at home over Mets, Detwiler with his first MLB win) of the 7-match winning streak to end she season and salvage a tiny spark of respectability

Does 2009 drop out of the race in a few weeks? Do you just stop listing them after we get past however many we won that year?

Once a season's total number of wins (in this case 59) is achieved it will in all likelihood simply be notated as such - I've thought about this from time to time and will probably just list these 'exhausted' seasons at the bottom of the table.
