Then you should want him converted to manager.
Maybe take all the 30 year old minor leaguers and convert them to managers, just to see which ones can hack it.

here's a crazy idea, you have tons of managers in the organization from GCL to AAA- get rid of Williams and try giving a lifer a shot instead of a former player looking for something to do

Billy Gardner, Jr. Son of former Nats 2B, Billy Gardner, who solidified the C/MI/CF in 1960. Currently managing Syracuse.

Zero chance he's in Syracuse in September.  He's a better LR than Fister at this point

Not that I think there's an innings limit on Ross, but he could spell some guys too

Ross definitely has an innings limit, the Nats don't like to over exert their young pitchers.  He has 3 starts left probably.  So Cole could definitely spell since he's stretched out

He's at 129.2 innings for the year. He's pitched 121/2 the last two seasons. I could see them pushing to 160-165. Maybe not. There's not an injury history, right?

No injury history, but it's industry best practice to add about 30 innings per season to avoid causing too much fatigue/stress on the arm. I agree, 3-4 more starts.

I would very much like to see what AJ Cole can do on normal rest. From what I remember, in all of his starts here the MLB level, he's been held back a day. He thrives down in the zone and inducing groundballs, so I want to see what he can do without the extra rest.

He only made the one start.

But he's had too much success at all other levels for that one start to be indicative of how he'll play in the majors

Another great start by Cole last night. Looks like they will work Roark as potential replacement for Ross if he is shut down but would have liked to see Cole as well. We may still se him. Giolito had a good one also even in the loss, really good numbers.

I'm guessing it'll go one way or the other in the Sept., and they'll call him up as a bullpen arm or as a starter. Have to find out what you have at ML level

Scherzer: not effective since mid-season
Strasburg: sore back
Zmnn: has settled down...pitching decently
Gio: scary / bad
Ross: near the limit

Might see Roark plus Cole and maybe a third starter than, unfortunately, the Nats don't have.

He's up with the big league team. He was called up on September 3rd, though he hasn't pitched yet.

In all seriousness, I want to see Cole get another change in the majors. Last year was a disaster, but it was a disaster for a lot of players. Let's see what he can do with a new pitching coach.

pretty sure the chiefs are keeping their coach from last year. More seriously, even if he was up, how much one on one time would he really get with Maddux?
