Nice article on Solis.  A little bit of a puff piece, but some good quotes.

Article on Robbie Ray.  He's throwing in the low 90's at 19 years old.  Pretty good for a LHP.

Cool. Hope he keeps growing into a power pitcher! And not the next Josh Smoker (the starter, jury still out on Smoker the reliever)

If you follow the link below and take the survey, you will receive two free tickets to a Harrisburg game (all the games available for selection are weekday games).

Thanks for that!  I took the survey and scored a couple of tickets, apparently, for a Thursday game during Spring Break.

Does anyone know if the Suns have anything like this, or any good deals they have?  I'm going to see Harper sometime this Spring in Hagerstown, before he moves up to Potomac/Harrisburg.

Check out Byron Kerr, he has actually been pumping out some real quality stuff on our minor leaguers the last week or so.

Nats release six minor leaguers.

RHP Billy Ott (AUB)
RHP Wanel Vasquez (HAG)
RHP Mike Gallo (GCL)
RHP Tim Dupuis (GCL)
RHP Scott Mueller (?)
1B Kevin Barker (happened a week or so ago)

All were undrafted FA's, except for Barker who was in his 30's.

A bit surprised by Ott as he moved up three levels last year after being signed.

Good article from Kerr on RHP Brad Meyers who might be finally healthy and ready to kick some more ass:

Kerr had a nice little update on Trevor Holder ('09 3rd rounder) and Ryan Tatusko (from Texas in Guzman trade). Holder's numbers last year were more solid than I realized, even for a second tour through Single A.

Quote from: Byron Kerr
7-6 with a 3.64 ERA in 26 starts. He struck out 102 batters and allowed 29 walks.

Also said they made a change in Holder's mechanics that's paying dividends.

Quote from: Byron Kerr
"Holder is coming off a great outing," Nationals Director of Player Development Doug Harris said. "We made a slight delivery adjustment which has really helped him. He is a quality kid with a very strong work ethic."

Tatusko looks like a right-handed Tom Milone, flying under the radar gun, so to speak, but with a diverse arsenal and the ability to just get guys out.

Quote from: Byron Kerr
The 6-foot-5, 200-lb. Indiana State Sycamore went 12-3 with a 2.63 ERA in splitting his Double-A season between Frisco and Harrisburg.

Doesn't Tatusko also have a ridiculous K/9?

He didn't, until he came to Harrisburg, and even then, it was less than a strike out an inning.

But, he was much improved upon being traded to the Nats.

It's wild how Rizzo and his staff saw something in Holder that no one else did and followed through on it.

Yeah, they saw that he'd sign cheap. Holder is not a good pitcher.

Come on, you've got to give a young guy more than two professional seasons before drawing conclusions like that. Not all college pitchers have it figured out when they get drafted.

He doesn't avoid bats, and he gives up 1 HR per 9 innings pitched. I'm sorry, but he was a signability pick from the get go.

Perhaps impressed with his ability to touch to mid-90s, the organization nabbed Holder about five to seven rounds higher than he was projected to go.

This was a shocking pick. Holder was a senior starter for the Bulldogs, but was hit hard despite some solid stuff. Most predicted him to go in the 7th-10th round range, so this was surprising. He signed for under slot, though, so I give them props for that. However, this was altogether puzzling, as Holder seems to have middle reliever written all over him.

I think there is a school of thought that K - BB is more important than K/9.  A 6 K/9 guy who is 1 - 2 BB/9 is superior to an 8 K/9, 4 BB/9.

in kerr's piece about brad meyers, BM said he threw anywhere from 88-94?  i thought he was more of a 88-90 guy?

Byron Kerr FTW

http://www.masnsports.com/byron_kerr/2011/03/prospects-harper-and-taylor-could-man-same-outfield-for-suns.html

Harper back on the field. Doubled and scored a run yesterday. Ready to go for season.

Also, some interesting stuff on Michael Taylor. The Nats converted him from infielder to CF and apparently he's been turning some heads in camp.

Any news on Tyler Moore? He's one of the guys I'm most interested in seeing. It might be a pipe dream, but if this kid can bring what he had last season again this year, and some of that to the pros, we have a gem on our hands.

all i know is he hit a monster double to straightaway center that could've been a homer on any other day.  charlie and dave were raving about his power.
