Nationals @ Marlins, Game 1
« Topic Start: July 13, 2007, 06:38:43 PM »

Game Time: 7:05 ET

Dontrelle Willis
7-7, 4.72 ERA

Jason Bergmann
1-5, 3.47 ERA

(SS) Hanley Ramirez
(2B) Dan Uggla
(3B) Miguel Cabrera
(1B) Mike Jacobs
(LF) Josh Willingham
(RF) Jeremy Hermida
(SC) Miguel Olivo
(CF) Alfredo Amezaga
(SP) Dontrelle Willis

Nook Logan (CF)
Ronnie Belliard (2B)
Ryan Zimmerman (3B)
Dmitri Young (1B)
Austin Kearns (RF)
Ryan Church (LF)
Felipe Lopez (SS)
Brian Schneider (SC)
Jason Bergmann (SP)
________________________________________________

Bergmann had a respectable ERA during the first half of the season and had only one win to show for it. It didn't help that Washington's offense struggled all season. In Bergmann's starts, for example, the Nationals have averaged 2.27 runs. Talk to Bergmann about the lack of run support, and he'll tell you that the bats will wake up sooner or later.

Able to reset its rotation after the All-Star break, Florida has Willis is lined up to open the second half. The D-Train has certainly had his struggles at home this season: In 10 starts at Dolphin Stadium, the 25-year-old is 2-5 with a 4.94 ERA. Willis has faced the Nationals once this season, beating them on Opening Day at RFK Stadium. He gave up two runs (one earned) in six innings that day. In his last start before the break, Willis was not involved in the decision, yielding five runs (four earned) in six innings at Los Angeles.

It's Friday the 13th and we have Jason on the mound  Can't think of a better choice to start off the second half of the season. Get the chainsaw ready to mow 'em down  :D

...coming from Dolphins Stadium, one of only three remaining grounds in MLB (and the only one left in the National League - the others are in Minnesota and Oakland) also used by an NFL team...opened in 1988, the last of the so-called 'multi-purpose stadiums' (translation: football stadium more or less adaptable for baseball) so popular in the 60's and 70's - in the Senators' last season in 1971, 15 of the then-24 MLB teams played in such joint-use facilities (16 if you include Milwaukee, since the Packers were still playing three home matches a season there; this ended in 1994).

How times have changed - for the better (for both sports really, but especially baseball).

Interesting that we start the 2nd half vs the same team we started the season against

Berg vs D-Train, awesome match-up!

Nook starting in Center!

Man, that was a long time coming for B.S. I can't remember the last time he had a RBI single.

Alright Berg, there's you run support (wink)!
