Yeah, that. There is no way Nyjer threw an elbow mid-dive.

Riggs defends Morgan stealing the bases.

If somebody wants to drill batters in retaliation and put them on base, they need to accept the risk inherent in that strategy.

Exactly. The Marlins should've petitioned the umpire that after plunking Morgan he should be called out anyway.  :?  Too bad the Skins aren't playing the Dolphins tomorrow night.

Watching it in slow motion, i gained respect for guys like Desmond who was the one that pulled Sanchez out of the pile. Then Pudge comes in and pulls somebody off. Eckstein was in there mixing it up as well. Lannan didn't look interested in getting involved. Dunn ran past Lannan and when he was pulling someone off that person pushed up against Dunn's lower body and Dunn tripped and fell. Zimmerman didn't want to get involved. Morse jumped in at one point. freak Uggla. He was acting all bad when the brawl was over but while it was going on he wasn't doing crap. Riggleman was yelling at the Marlins manager something about one time. Probably saying you can already plunk a batter once with impunity.

I was listening on XM in the car when the Volstad/Morgan I(wonder if Volstad/Morgan II will happened in DC) match happened.  I thought the Marlins announcers handled the situation pretty well.  They didn't say that throwing at Nyjer was the right thing to do and only commented that Nyjer had stolen 2 bases after getting hit in the 4th.

MLB network ripping Nyjer worse than it has any player ever.  Harold just destroyed him.

Harolds never, say, sexually harrassed anyone?

As for Conine, he belongs in the Character Hall of Fame and I don't think he would have stood for a guy acting like that on his team.

I still think Riggleman should have pulled Morgan after the steals rather than risking an injury in the brawl to come.

It sounds as if they've never seen him slide before.

The Nats were LOSING. He was trying to win a ballgame. For once, Nyjer was 100% absolutely right.

I think Riggles destroys any manager in baseball.  He's pretty swole for an older dude.

In fairiness, he never imagined, and I don't think many did, that Volstad would go after him again.

Riggleman said in the post game that he expected Volstad to throw at him again.

Players on the field can really feel the vibes from the other team, something we on TV are completely isolated from.

Morgan's punch missed, Volstad hit in the face by the bill of Listad's helmet.  Of course, that probably happened when some Marlin jumped on Listad.

Funny. The fight has totally overshadowed how bad Olsen and Stammen were.

No way it was Listach's helmet. Look at it again. The helmet falls off before Listach's head goes anywhere near Volstad. Either Listach nicked him under the pile, Morgan elbowed him while struggling or Morgan's graze caused it.

After his lunging punch, Gaby took him out, and Nyjer swung at air until he was buried and never again near Volstad.  Also, after being taken out by Gaby, Nyjer was on Volstad's left, and Volstad was hit on his right - no way Nyjer did it.

EDIT:  Listad's helmet does come off and doesn't appear to ever really come close to the side of Volstad's face.  Volstad was the last player to get up.  He could have been kicked in the face by one of his teammates.

Yeah, again though, suppose Dunn sprained his ankle, or someone else important got hurt?  It's just not worth the risk.

Looks like I missed a heckuva game...

I'll say this for Nieves, when he gets a hold of one, he makes it memorable.

I think Pat Listach deserves a medal.  Nyjer might be dead right now if he didnt get his old 50 year old ass in there.
