So being last is ok and not inexcusable?  Ask Adam Dunn, his compatriot in the AL.
Danny's hitting 70 points higher than Dunn.

And of course, you're dead wrong.

Kelly Johnson - .209
Carlos Pena - .227
Chris Young - .229
Jason Bay - .230
Jayson Werth - .230
Alex Gonzalez - .231
John Buck - .231
Danny Espinosa - .233

I said "going to be".  I'm looking ahead.  I'm expecting more 0 for 4's over the rest of the season.

And Desmond has done what exactly?

Desmond isn't a lock either - i never said he was.  if Lombardozzi turns out to be a keeper I could see Danny at SS.  someone will have to give up some ABs to see Lombar play.

Ugh, it can't be good to have two guys on that list ...

Avatar bet?

I've already got SF lined up for three months of ASSCLOWN in a few weeks.

Just like you look ahead in the first inning of every game?

Um no.  You'd "win" if he's 4th from the bottom or 6th or 10th?  How is that better or less inexcusable than being last?

Just debating how low he is on the list tells us there's something wrong!

How about betting that he'll be league average?  Me on the side that he's not.   :|

How's his OBP compared to Desmond? How's his SLG compared to Desmond? How's his OPS compared to Desmond?

Not really. He's never been a high average hitter. Couple that with him playing a lot more than most rookies and this slump was rather predictable. Essentially, he's starting his sophomore slump early.

Espinosas defense pretty much solidifies his spot in the lineup. Until Desmond can play even average defens or starts hitting like Hamley Ramirez from two years ago,  he will always be more of a liability than Espinosa.

I ain't been a MD fan since Gary Collins and Modzelewski  (Big Mo and Little Mo)   ...  alright maybe White but do the Terps play tonight?

I'm really shaking my head at PC's logic here. This isn't even saber vs. traditional, this is just common sense.

I'm not saying that Desmond is a great hitter and I do believe Espinosa is a far superior defender than Desmond but I do not believe Danny's "earned" anything because his liabilities at the plate are so great.  Even when he was hitting better earlier, his BA (which I still value) was low and he struck out too much.

Look, I like Danny (Ian too)  but his offense has to improve a lot before I'll pencil him in for anything, permanently...however you'd pencil anything in permanently.  :)

There are, maybe, 5 better second baseman in baseball. So unless we magically aquire Pedroia I think Espinosa hase earned the starting job. At least until Rendon shows up.

Offensively, there are more than five better.

OK, now this post deserves AAA+++. Add Dick Bielski, Bob Pellegini, and Coach Jim Tatum. My dad still talks about a game against UCLA who were trying to score what would have become the winning TD. "It looked like an ocean wave crashing around a rock. Pellegrini breaking through the UCLA blockers, putting his shoulder into the ball-carrier's stomach, and throwing him on his back".

I'm a Steelers' fan but I always liked Collins with the Browns.   Plus, Dick Shiner played for the Steelers.
