He became one of those looney born-again Christians and made some comment to the team chaplain or some other idiot that's probably diddling kids that he was concerned about his Jewish girlfriend going to hell.  Something about all Jews go to hell without accepting Ted Nugent Jesus as the saviour.  You know, that kind of lunacy.

Way before my time.  Most MLB players are certified idiots but few put it out there like Ryan Church did.  What a slapdick.

Team chaplain wasn't a Catholic priest.

Someone on the MLB message board suggested that in penance, he should change his name from Ryan Church to Ryan Synagogue.  (I thought that was hilarious.)

In fairness, Church (ironic name, eh?) was only inquiring of the good minister out of genuine concern for the welfare of his girlfriend.  Perhaps he really didn't want her to burn in hell, eh?

yes.  i never took it as malicious.  To him, salvation was a huge thing, and he wanted the best for her.

He's an evangelical, a pretty fundamental tenant is salvation through christ alone, his girlfriend wasn't christian. He was just being honest about his belief (I wonder how many other evangelicals would give honest answers to the same question)

Every true Christian believes the same thing. None of this, you can blow off believing in Christ as long as you are a good person bullcrap.

can you name any denomination that holds that faith isn't an essential element of salvation- I can't think of any. For evangelicals, it's sola fide, for Methodists you need good works, with Catholics, you need the church for salvation, but faith still is a prerequisite.
