Wilson Valdez signs with the Marlins. I guess their quest for crappy players didn't end when they cut Figgins.

Angels trade Vernon Wells to the Yankees. Pending physical. Yankees are responsible for $13M of the $42M owed for 2013/14 seasons. As far as I can tell the Angels receive nothing in return.

I guess signing Wilson Valdez didn't excite the Marlin's fan. Can't please some people

Doesn't groupon act as a high interest loan to struggling businesses- are the marlins that desperate for cash?

What was that Marlins blog we invaded a couple years ago? He posted something idiotic, Nats fans commented on his blog, and he went nuts and even did a blog post directed at Nats fans.

Lohse agrees to deal with Brewers

Kyle Lohse finally has a new baseball home.

Lohse has agreed to a three-year, $33 million contract with the Milwaukee Brewers and will undergo a physical today, a major league source confirmed to FOXSports.com. The deal also includes roughly $1 million in performance bonuses over the three years.

Good grief. His career is in freefall. Hopefully he can figure it out down there.

I think it's what they did with Doc Halladay as well.

Yep, and the Tigers did the same with Dontrelle Willis. I think Halladay was 24 and Dontrelle 26. Romero's 28 which makes it a lot different IMO

if they want to change his delivery, aren't the coaches who are the most used to that (as opposed to tweaking) at that level? I've always heard a focus on instruction as being a reason for demoting a player to A ball as opposed to AAA

I would expect the Minor League Pitching Coordinator to be the lead. Dunedin is probably a better facility than Manchester (AA) or Buffalo (AAA). Weather is also a factor. It's really unusually to see a pitcher with his experience get a rebuild. Especially since he didn't have a funky delivery to begin with ala Dontrelle. I wonder why John Farrell didn't push for this yet Dirk Hayhurst did last year.

Morosi from Fox Sports on Romero.  The relevant part for Nationals fans:

Quote
Romero underwent arthroscopic elbow surgery during the offseason, so the Blue Jays probably could have placed him on the disabled list under the guise that Romero’s issues are physical in nature. They didn’t. And they deserve credit for that. To send Romero all the way to the Florida State League is to suggest he is mired in mechanical/mental limbo — the place that demands a holistic, painstaking escape plan.

Of course Morosi totally misses that Romero has 4 years of service time so either the Blue Jays use his option or lose it forever.

Johan Santana has re-torn his anterior capsule of the left shoulder. Same thing that caused him to miss 2011. Second surgery is a "strong possiblity." At 34 this is probably the end for him.

So basically, he lost a year to injury, came back, pitched a no-hitter, and then he's gone again.

Weird ending to a good career.
