Food, Deep-Fried Style
« Topic Start: December 22, 2012, 11:22:12 PM »
There was brief discussion about various fried foods in the End of the World thread, so I'm creating a separate topic.  Someone mentioned deep-fried Oreos.  My brother lives in Iowa and their state fair actually features deep-fried butter.  I like fried stuff, but that's a bit too much.  Tonight, I ate my first deep-fried Twinkie.  No, I'm not in Iowa and it definitely isn't state fair season, plus Hostess has been defunct for several weeks now.  But there's a carnival at the Bull Run Festival of Lights, the drive-through holiday light show near Centreville.  I'm not sure how they still have an inventory of Twinkies, but they do.  And they deep-fry them.  Along with Oreos, candy bars (I saw Baby Ruth bars through the window) and probably other stuff that is not good for you.  As for the Twinkie, it was just okay.  At least I can say I've had one now.  At five bucks a pop, that will be likely be the last one I have.

On to the point of my post, what is the best deep-fried food you all have had?  I had deep fried turkey many years ago and it was delicious - I have the stuff to do it myself now and I really want to do it, so I welcome any advice from folks who have done it themselves.  Any other ideas for a large deep fryer?

I need to try this, dammit!

And I don't get the obession with frying everything in sight. I love the classics- onion rings, tempura - but fried candy bars and cookies :spaz:
