What happened?  No C&D or TV access.

Desmond lined one right off their pitcher's face area.. don't know exactly where. He's been laying on the mound for a good 5 minutes and being tied to a stretcher now.

Desmond with a line shot off the pitcher's right ear area.  Holding towels, so there must be some bleeding.  He's moving his fingers and is responsive to questions, so he is concious.

Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever is no joke.  I had it when I was seven.
A woman that I used to work with has a son that had it.  She doesn't work now because it caused brain damaged and she has to take care of him :|

That is scary. A baseball to the side of the head has killed before.

Hopefully he's OK and doesn't miss any time. That said, let's kick the Rockies' ass!

Probably.

However, with brain injuries, often there is sort of a delayed effect as bleeding or swelling can take a while to do damage.  So there is some ongoing risk to his health.

Roots sports announcers say they think he was probably unconcious for a few seconds. Scary.

I was lucky.  My pediatrician identified it early when all my relatives thought it was just the Chicken Pox.  Could've been in that kid's condition or worse (dead).

Flores hit a pitcher like that a few weeks ago in Syracuse.

Wow.  That's a nightmare as a player.

I took a shot off the head from a ball hit by an aluminum bat once while playing 3B and I was knocked out.  I still see it happening every time I play 3B to this day.
