Gburg saw the belt pack I use that's got a lock holster.  Here's me with the new lock in it trying not to sag (the shorts are two sizes too big):

It doesn't go over the shoulder?

If you're being serious, no, though it should.  If you're joking -

It's really a fanny pack, but a useful fanny pack.  I usually keep our Nats tickets, energy gels, and phones in it when we ride.  Beats adding more crap to the bike.

No one ever argues the utility of a fanny pack. It's the appearance.

However, that one doesn't have the usual cluelessness associated with a fanny pack.

The fanny pack is a critical part of the red state tourist ensemble.  Ditto a visor and cell phone holster hanging from the jorts.

Minus the cellphone holster, you just described my mom.

From the local listserv:

Our bikes were stolen tonight from a garage near 17th & Kalorama. They
were locked with thick chains and multiple kryptonite locks. One is a
red Klein "carbon team" road bike and the other a blue and white Trek
Madone women's road bike. They were likely stolen by someone who is
familiar with the neighborhood and cased them out in advance. Any
information appreciated. Thanks.

Uh, why would you keep them in your garage?  That's probably the werst place to do that if you have any tools out there or a power outlet.  A handgrinder would make short work of all of those deterrents in about 30 seconds.

My thought exactly.  That's probably $7000 worth of beef.

Chains and locks, even mega locks like the one I have, are really just deterrents and annoyances.  Good luck with that insurance claim.  As a wiseman once said - a fool and his money were lucky to get together in the first place.  It sounds like these people fit that to a T.

Or as the old saw goes, "a good lock keeps out an honest thief".

I wouldn't lock my good bikes outside for more than 10 minutes.  My assault bike is so beat up looking, I might leave it out for 30 minutes, but that's it.

Yeah, I leave mine locked up outside of my office in the Danger Zone® but it's in plain sight of multiple restaurants and businesses with the mega lock I just got.  If somebody really has a hard-on to steal it with the Pentagram and Arlington County police watching them go right ahead, enjoy the hickory shampoo.

That's obviously someone with more money than brains (particularly street smarts).  Not to generalize, but I can only imagine what the needledick that rode that thing looked like.  Probably one of those clowns I blow past on the 14th Street bridge every morning.

I'd imagine the same type of person that has 64gigs in their laptop.

Ya i'm lucky that I've got an empty cubical behind me so I just roll my bike right in the door and stick it in a cube. I work in IS for a large health care system so they must appreciate fitness. I saw another guy wheelin a brand new Trek 7.5FX out the door and stopped to talk with him, apparently he rides it from the parking lot to our building. That's like 1 block across a Starbucks parking lot

Ha! No the dude is my size, like 6'2" 180ish...I don't really know him very well so he may be weird. At first I thought he was crapting me, but he was in fact serious. I almost couldn't handle it. I wanted to call him a dumb ass for buying a $1k bike to ride across the parking lot, but he's a director so I thought better of it.
