The feed was cutting in and out for the fourth, SDU broadcast is horrible.  Had to switch back to SDSU's feed.

I missed the first batter, but apparently he had a high chopper to the 2B area.  The announcers were mentioning how much top spin the balls have coming off the Torrero's bats.  Strasburg K's the second and third batters (7 Ks now).  Strasburg has appeared to have readjusted to the strike zone and is getting nothing but strikes now.  He also appears to have gone back to his slider.

5th Inning (Strasburg at 63 pitches); bottom of the Torrero line-up

1st batter:  Ball is lined straight to one of the infielders for a first pitch out.

2nd batter: first pitch heater, second pitch slider, slider down and away, another slider down and away, yet another slider that the batter cannot catch up with. Strikeout #8 (KKBBK)

3rd batter:  This is the guy that homered off of SS earlier.  Last season Strasburg only let up one HR, the batter (McCoy) hit his first college HR of his career.  First pitch is an inside slider.  Inside fastball. Outside fastball.  slider that just misses the strikezone.  Changeup straight over the plate for the out.  Strasburg was in a similar situation where he got up in the count, then fell behind and eventually gave up a hit.  This time, he struck out the batter.  (KBKBBK)  Strikeout #9

at 75 pitches by my count

It sounded like he was having a real rough time out there in the 2nd and 3rd, then all of a sudden in the fourth he came out with a fire.  He has been dominating since he got touched up earlier.

What I especially love is that he's able to brush off the sub-par performance he turned in early and roar back into the game, metaphorical guns blazing. Eight of his strikeouts have come since allowing the solo homer which temporarily gave his foes the lead...

Bottom 7th (83 pitches), 4-2 Aztecs lead

Batter #1 (Shawn Nicole, double earlier): Inside slider.  Breaking ball inside corner.  Batter tries to check on the slider, called strike.  Called third strike outside corner.  Strikeout #13 and the only batter of the line up he has not struck out in the SD lineup. (BKKK)

Batter #2 (Victor Sanchez):  Slider strike 1.  Slider, foul.  High fastball, ball.  Slider for a strike, batter not even close.  14 Ks. (KFBK)

Batter #3 (Chris Ingle):  Batter trying to bunt, ball in the dirt.  Ball, just missing outside corner.  Foul for strike 1. Fastball on the outside corner.  Groundball to infield for a single. Breaks the strikeout streak at 7. (BBFKH)

Batter #4 (Castro):  Passed ball, runner advances to second.  Fastball, batter swinging for strike.  Slider missing the outside corner, ball.  4th pitch for strikeout #15. (KKBK)

He should be right around 100 pitches going into the 8th.  Depending how quickly he mows down the lineup in the next inning, he could go a CG.

I think he should go for the CG. As I've said before, i "the game" agains Utah he threw 128 pitches. Grante, that was a bit further into the season, but I think after two starts he could handle it.

Bottom 8th (around 100 pitchers)

Batter #1 (Michael Lugo): Fastball outside.  Foul towards backstop.  Slider for strike two. Swinging strike 3.  16 strikeouts. (BFKK)

Batter #2 (McCoy):  three strikes in a row for strikeout 17.  Season high for Strasburg. (KKK)

Batter #3 (Kevin Muno):  Fastball, swinging strike.  Muno tries to bunt, leaves bat out for strike two.  Swinging strike for #3, but the catcher drops the ball and Muno makes it to first.  Strikeout #18 (KKK)

Batter #4:  Fly ball on the first pitch for out 3. (H)

Strasburg has relied on his slider a lot more since getting squeezed in the first few innings, when he was using his fastball more.  His slider might end up be his best pitch in the pros.

111 pitches for SS

8.0 5 H, 1 ER, 18 SO, 1 BB, 113 pitches

I wish there had been video, but it sounded like a very strong performance excluding those two innings where he got in trouble.  His recovery was brilliant though and the streak of 7 batters struck out was sheer dominance at the college level.

Chief should ban that dude if he comes on here ripping Strasburg again for pitching against "little league" teams.  :?

Strasburg dominated the #11 team in the country today on the road.

Here are Strasburg's numbers on the season:

20.1 IP 13 H 4 ER 4 BB 45 K 1 HR (3-0, 1.77 ERA, 0.84 WHIP, 19.92 K/9)

Haha, ban him!!?!?  That is a little harsh, dude was just expressing his opinion.  But, Strasburg did have another stellar performance tonight.  I didn't hear changeball but twice tonight.  Once on a put-away pitch.  I'd like to see that more just to be comfortable with his four pitch arsenal.

Other than that, he has set the bar pretty high for the rest of the season.

Good Lord, I am excited. If they don't draft him... well, I'm not worried. Rizzo and Brown won't screw this up. There's reason to worry with Bowden, but not with them.
