I don't understand why teams build stadiums that huge ever.

Especially with that terrible pitching and middling offense.  My understanding is that that park isn't really triples friendly either so some of the speedsters are going to be minimized.

If you're really low payroll (padres), it minimizes the impact of sluggers (ie players you can't afford) and lets you get away with flyball pitchers (who are cheaper)

That's interesting. I hadn't thought of payroll implications. I was wondering about the Padres as I ate breakfast.

I wonder if it's a stretch to think: smaller parks = more home runs = more excitement = more fans. I would have made that Miami stadium a bandbox, as small as rules would allow. Video game baseball. People actually show up to Marlins games.

They are a team built for speed (at least 1-3) so I guess they figured the larger park would give them some benefit (though their OF speed is going to be a challenge).  What a great way to see them open the park though!!!

The Reds crowd is pathetic today. They are leading 2-0 and their ace is dominating yet the crowd is silent.

Very good pitching on display today. Cueto, Verlander, Strasburg, Dempster...

He just finished seven beautiful scoreless innings and they gave him a little hand. If that was Strasburg the place would have been rocking.
