29: A's
27: Orioles
25: Pirates
21: White Sox
17: Braves (this one is probably the most puzzling of all, to me)
5: Diamondbacks

These are the ones that stick out to me.

wow.  that's why preseason predictions are just for fun.  never buy into 'em.

It's not the OBP.  .331 is mediocre, although it is about 30 points higher than his career. It's the SLG - .522 and the isolated power - .228 (SLG-BA).  That slugging is higher than all of our regulars, including RZ, Morse, and ALR.  It only trails Moore among Nats with over 50 plate appearances.  It leads all qualified MLB SS by over .070.  That is incredible (In contrast, his OBP is only 7th,  behind the likes of Jamey Carroll).  His ISO is not only the best for all shortstops, it is about 30th for qualified MLB position players, right around the ISO's for Mark Trumbo, Cody Ross, Carlos Beltran, Mark Reynolds, and Mark Teixera.  Those are some big boys he's bashing with.

Not saying his OBP is crazy good I understand that (i dont think its medicore either) . But like you mentioned its 30 points higher than his career number. As he continues to mature hopefully he gets it up to 340-360 range. Other than that all his numbers are just crazy good.

I think we're much more likely to see Desmond mash 40 home runs than Espinosa next year, just because he's flashed 30 HR power.  You realize those numbers are astronomical for middle infielders, right?

Not disagreeing.  Exciting times.

As for Espionsa he showed he has power unlike Desmond, he hit 20+ last year. Just imagine if he makes the big jump like Desmond did this year, Espionsa could hit 30-40 next year

I need to come up with a graphic of Charlie Manual and Desmond with the caption, "You're gonna die Charlie.  I can't stop it."

Unless he turns into a .330 hitter his OBP will never reach those heights. And that's perfectly fine as long as we keep him away from the leadoff spot and he keeps mashing. (fwiw a .330 OBP is only slightly above league average).

I don't know why you'd have anyone other than Werth/Harper at the top of your line up from now on ...

I think Harper strikes out too much to hit 2nd long term.

It's not like Werth is known for making lots of contact (though he is much improved this season). I only really care if they can get on base at a decent rate.

In which case, I accept the double standard with open arms.

I'll admit it, I was wrong about Ian Desmond. I'm very impressed with the way he has hit this season. Even his defense is a little better.

Bravo Ian!!

Desmond is up for arbitration after this year.  It might be a good idea to sign him to a long term deal this offseason.  Maybe a three or four year deal.

PC and SF agree with each other about me. Thankfully that just makes everyone else automatically agree with whatever the other position is!

And don't pay Desmond this year. If he's still playing good at the 2013 AS break, then you approach about an extension.

It can go both ways. For example, it could result in overpaying a mediocre player (Stephen Drew), or be extremely cost-effective (Ryan Braun).

I'll say it again: I was completely wrong about Desmond last winter...and Espi has improved his hitting. I did say, or mean to say, that the Nats would climb as high as Desmond and Espi improved toward the level of Jeter and Cano.

Ian Desmond could join Hanley Ramirez (four times), Alex Rodriguez (twice), Derek Jeter, Nomar Garciaparra, Barry Larkin and Alan Trammell as the only shortstops ever to hit .300 with 20 homers and 20 steals.

Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond finally has a big stage to show off his talents

By Adam Kilgore, Published: October 9

The rest of the country missed its chance this summer to meet Ian Desmond. An oblique injury sidelined him from the All-Star Game, and so he never stepped onto the national stage. The baseball world never got to watch him corral grounders other shortstops would watch roll into the outfield, to see him spray line drives across the diamond, to witness Desmond’s years of toil give way to rare athletic gifts that make him, after eight professional seasons, maybe the crucial player on the Washington Nationals.
