Not too surprising considering he's rehabbing a shoulder injury and hasn't started playing in games yet.

I did ask if he was still hurt.

Goodwin to repeat half of AA and then to Syracuse?? Maybe his future is corner OF? (Taylor to CF whenever Span slows, which won't be soon)

Goodwin not having a sparkling season as a hitter, at least not yet: .250 BA; .680 OPS; 1 HR; 19 Ks and about 6 walks.

From June 4, Senators page:

Quote
Brian Goodwin might like a redo on Wednesday's doubleheader as if he was stuck in his own personal "Groundhog Day" or something.

In the opener, Goodwin came to the plate in the bottom of the seventh with Anthony Rendon on second base and no outs. A run wins the game for the Senators, so at the very least he needed to get Rendon to third with an out so he could score on a sacrifice fly or wild pitch.

Instead, Goodwin looked at three straight pitches, all strikes, never once moving the bat off his shoulder. "You need to at least try to move the runner," [manager Brian] Daubach said.

"He's just thinking too much right now. He's got a lot of things going through his head and he just couldn't pull the trigger."

In the nightcap, Goodwin led off the final frame down a run. The goal is to get on base and have the guys behind you in the order, first game hero Mario Lisson and Drew Vettleson, come through to drive you in.

Goodwin accomplished the first part with a hit slashed into right-center field that had him thinking double the second he left the batter's box. Goodwin rounded first base and never slowed down until he was being tagged out sliding into second.

Daubach pointed to Goodwin trying to make something happen but lamented the fact that you can't do that especially when the play is right in front of you.

I keep forgetting this guy is alive.

Disappointing so far in AA.

Some prospects just don't work out.

I would take him off and put Caleb Ramsey on the 40 man.

so what happened to this guy? .227 / .291 / .337 this year at Harrisburg, 7 HRs, 14 SBs.   He's nearing age 25 so is it fair to say he's a bust?

Yup. Unfortunate for him. Hopefully he saved a bit of his bonus. At least he got league minimum for a year. Think he'll be gone this offseason.

He was supposed to be Jackie Bradley Jr.'s replacement at South Carolina.   Bradley at least is showing something.  If Goodwin has a glove, I can see him kicking around the minors a bit and hoping someday to be a 5th OF.  Maybe give it another 3 or so years.  Minor league free agent, I guess.

Never say never on toolsy. If you asked me for betting odds on whether Goodwin or Skole ever became an impact major league player, when both look like complete busts, I'd still say it's Goodwin 1/100.

True. Our old friend J-Max still has a gig with the Giants. Goodwin was supposed to have all the tools

At the Rule 5? Who on earth would put him on their 25-man roster for the whole season?

I wouldn't necessarily bet on it, but I do think it's a possibility. He does still have tools, can play defense, steal some bases, and can take a walk. Not much risk in taking the chance to see if a new environment could make a difference.

A really bad team with a hole and not much money.

.322/.413/.511/.924 14BB/18K in over 100 PA. Maybe he can still make something of his potential.

17% K-rate...close to KC Royals standard
BB == K (nearly)

In all: pretty good numbers. If Goodwin has learned to hit and learned to avoid strike-outs, then...

He's never been healthy. It's possible he's actually still good. Hope he breaks out next year.
